61. The Thing: Collector's Edition [Blu-Ray] (1982)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although it bombed critically and commercially in the summer of 1982, The Thing became a minor classic of the science fiction genre. Its delicious melding of sci-fi creatures with 1950s-era paranoiac drama create a film that remains wonderfully tense and unusual. Starring Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley. Shout!, $34.93, 10/11/2016.

62. Wings [Blu-Ray] (1927)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As I’ve watched 83 Best Picture-winning films, I’ve suffered through some that didn’t hold up well after however many years. I expected 1927’s Wings to be as dated as The Broadway Melody and Cimarron but found it to be surprisingly enjoyable; while it shows its age, it still delivers a fun popcorn flick. The Blu-ray boasts stunning picture quality as wel

63. Gandhi (1982)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a movie, Gandhi falls well short of its goals. It glorifies the life of a great man to an unrealistic degree, and it comes across as a dull, stodgy hagiography. Starring Ben Kingsley, Candice Bergen. Sony, $24.95, 8/28/2001.

64. Purple Rain: 20th Anniversary Special Edition (1984)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A career-making success, Purple Rain seemed great in 1984 but now comes across as dated and fairly silly. The performance scenes still rock, and a few glimmers of good moments appear due to the banter of Morris Day and Jerome Benton, but otherwise the flick’s something of an amateurish mess. Starring Prince, Morris Day. Warner, $26.99, 8/24/2004.

65. King Kong: Special Edition (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though the movie sags during its first act, the excitement and thrills of the subsequent two hours make up for its flaws. The DVD offers virtually flawless picture and audio along with a nice set of informative extras. I definitely recommend Kong and think this two-DVD Special Edition stands as its best current iteration. Starring Naomi Watts, Jack Black

66. Alice in Wonderland: 60th Anniversary Edition [Blu-Ray] (1951)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I'm in the minority, but I find Alice in Wonderland to be a very entertaining Disney film. It's funnier and quirkier than most, especially for its era. The Blu-ray offers excellent picture quality along with solid sound and a very nice complement of supplements. Without question, the Blu-ray becomes the best home video version of this enjoyable flick. Di

67. The Lord of the Rings: The Return Of The King - Platinum Series Extended Edition (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I definitely preferred the extended takes on Fellowship and Towers to their theatrical renditions, whereas that’s not the case here. Nonetheless, this shouldn’t negate the fact that the 4-disc King offers a spectacular package. I can’t praise it enough, as it presents yet another stunning release that stands as arguably the greatest DVD ever released. Di

68. Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban: Ultimate Edition [Blu-Ray] (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As for the Blu-ray, it provides exceptional visuals and very good audio, and the supplements add nice value to the set. This Ultimate Edition becomes unquestionably the best release of Prisoner, though it comes with a price; the UE runs exactly twice the MSRP of the standard Blu-ray. While I like this package, I suspect most fans will be happy enough wit

70. Dirty Harry Ultimate Collector's Edition: Bonus Material (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Purchased separately, the five movies would cost $80.90 MSRP, while the “Ultimate Collector’s Edition” goes for $74.98. If you want all the films, it’s obviously the way to go. I’m not enough of a fan to want the whole magilla, but I think it’s a nice set. Warner, $74.98, 6/3/2008.
