Gotham: The Complete Series [Blu-Ray] (2014-2019)

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson (July 15, 2019)

GOTHAM: THE COMPLETE SERIES

SEASON ONE: “As a big Batman fan, I looked forward to Gotham, and for the most part, the series’ first season lives up to my expectations. While it falters at times, Gotham usually provides an engrossing and absorbing look at the pre-origins of the Dark Knight’s characters and situations.”

SEASON TWO: “After a strong first year, Season Two of Gotham continues to work well. Granted, it peaks in its first few episodes, but the rest of the shows still entertain and provide solid material.

SEASON THREE: “My favorite of all the superhero-related TV series, Gotham continues to prosper during Season Three. The episodes maintain a pretty high level of quality and ensure that we remain involved and invested as the year progresses.”

SEASON FOUR: “Still my favorite DC TV series, Gotham continues to cruise along with Season Four. We get a largely solid collection of shows that builds toward a great climax.”

SEASON FIVE: “After five years, Gotham comes to an end with Season Five. The 12 episodes maintain a generally high level of quality and send off the series on a high note.”

The Package:

Back in 2005, Batman Begins gave us a recap of the title character’s “origin story”. For a broader take on how Bruce Wayne came to be the Dark Knight, Gotham ran on TV for five seasons.

Of course, with about 73 hours at its disposal, Gotham embraced a much broader scope than Begins could, and it used that time to develop a wide array of Batman-related roles. In addition to Bruce, we got the stories of Catwoman, Commissioner Gordon, the Joker, the Riddler, the Penguin, and plenty of others to a lesser degree.

Like any TV series, Gotham came with ups and downs, but overall, it maintained a high level of quality. Of all the superhero series I’ve seen, it easily fares the best.

With 2019’s Gotham: The Complete Series, we find all those adventures in one package. As stated, it offers all five seasons under a single roof..

All those links above go to the individual reviews, and “Complete Series” lacks any exclusive content.

Gotham: The Complete Series brings a lot to the table. With a strong run of episodes, it offers many hours of entertainment. The seasons offer very good picture and audio along with decent supplements. If you don’t already own the seasons on their own, this package becomes a worthwhile purchase.
