It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown [Blu-Ray] (1992)

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson (November 24, 2025)

Back in 1965, A Charlie Brown Christmas debuted and became a much-beloved classic. Though the Peanuts crew appeared in bunches of other TV specials after that, these avoided the Yuletide season.

In 1992, It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown finally brought a long-delayed sequel to the 1965 original. Wisely, it doesn't attempt to emulate that classic. Instead, it takes a looser and more glib look at the holiday through a series of minor vignettes.

In essence, Again feels sort of like a bunch of comic strips cobbled together into one piece, probably because it is. Fans will recognize these segments from their appearances in print.

There's no coherent plot. We find various brief stories that are stuck together in a fairly smooth manner but which don't attempt any kind of overall message or tale.

This means that one minute we see Charlie Brown as he tries to sell wreaths and the next finds Snoopy as a street corner Santa.

It's all loose and semi-random but fairly entertaining. Clearly the show's lack of coherence makes it less memorable than the original special, but that doesn't mean it's not a lot of fun.

Actually, Again may be one of the more amusing of the Peanuts specials, which surprises me given its recent vintage. In terms of laughs, Peanuts was spotty for its last decade or two, and I didn't expect much from a 1992 offering.

Despite that possibility, It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown functions as a nice complement to the earlier classic. It offers a lively experience that seems rewatchable and clever.

Because it remains inferior, the show probably would function best as a "warm-up" to A Charlie Brown Christmas, so you may want to view it first if you decide to take in both during one sitting. But it becomes a likeable project.

The Disc Grades: Picture B/ Audio C+/ Bonus NA

It’s Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown appears in an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 on this Blu-ray Disc. While not stellar, the visuals seemed positive.

For the most part, sharpness appeared good. Some minor softness and murkiness occurred but the image looked fairly concise most of the time.

No issues with jagged edges or moiré effects occurred, and I saw no edge haloes. The show came with some cel dust and iffy clean-up animation but I noticed no actual source flaws.

Colors appeared pretty vivid. The mild murkiness meant the hues didn’t dazzle but they brought appealing punch.

Blacks seemed deep and dense, while low-light shots provided appropriate clarity. Though this didn’t become the best-looking Peanuts special, it worked fine.

Don’t expect much from the show’s wholly bland DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack. Indeed, the final product seemed barely stereo, much less multichannel.

This meant the program delivered a little gentle musical spread to the front side channels and nothing more. For the most part, the mix seemed monaural.

Audio quality seemed fine for a TV special from 1992, with speech that appeared reasonably natural and concise. Music showed acceptable jingle and pep.

Effects lacked much to do but still seemed acceptably accurate. This turned into a low-key soundtrack.

No extras appear attached to Again, but I didn’t expect any because it comes to us via a package called Peanuts Ultimate TV Specials. It includes a total of 40 Peanuts shows.

As such, I didn’t expect bonus features for Again so I didn’t give this set a grade for these elements. We do find a booklet that offers brief plot synopses for 21 of the 40 shows along with quick bios for 11 of the characters.

No one seems likely to prefer it to its classic 1965 predecessor, but 1992’s It’s Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown provides a perfectly credible sequel. It comes with enough wit and charm to make it worth a watch. The Blu-ray delivers good picture and mediocre audio. Expect a fun little tale here.
