161. Halloween: Unrated Director's Cut [Blu-Ray] (2007)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Because I’ve enjoyed other remakes of horror classics, I thought the 2007 Halloween could’ve been good. However, the movie totally discards everything that made the original so enjoyable and just becomes a tedious mess. Starring Malcolm McDowell, Scout Taylor-Compton. Weinstein Company, $24.95, 10/21/2008.

162. Gravity [Blu-Ray] (2013)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: One of 2013’s big critical and commercial hits, Gravity provides an unusual take on a “castaway” story. It mixes a tight narrative with strong acting and excellent visual effects. The Blu-ray delivers very good picture and bonus materials along with awesome audio. I like the movie and feel pleased with its home video representation. Starring Sandra Bullo

163. Spider-Man 2 (2012 Re-Issue) [Blu-Ray] (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Unfortunately, the Blu-ray lacks many extras found on the old DVDs, so fans who own those will need to hold onto them. If you already have the 2007 Blu-ray and either own the bonus features from the DVDs or don’t care about those materials, there’s no reason to upgrade; the 2012 Blu-ray demonstrates picture/audio that seem similar to the earlier release.

164. Miami Vice: Unrated (2006)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Miami Vice avoids the expected kitschy treatment of its source material but it goes too far in the opposite direction. Obsessed with a gritty form of hyper-reality, the film rarely makes much sense and it fails to become a vivid, involving tale. Starring Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx. Universal, $29.98, 12/5/2006.

168. Spider-Man: Superbit Edition (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you have the older version and feel satisfied with the picture, don’t bother with the Superbit. The audio commentary seems mediocre and not worth the additional expense on its own. However, if you’re one of the many who thought the old disc’s visuals seemed less than positive, you’ll probably be unable to resist this upgrade. Starring Tobey Maguire, K

169. Rear Window: Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection (1954)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although I was not born when Alfred Hitchcock created his greatest works - indeed, he only made three movies after my birth - I’ve been happy to check out his legacy on DVD, and 1954’s Rear Window stands with the best of his material. The film moves at a slow but compelling pace and uses simple methods to ensnare the viewer. Ultimately, it’s a very enter

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though The Jungle Book maintains a great fan base, I must admit it disappoints me. The movie boasts some charm and fun but it never coalesces into anything particularly memorable or creative. Starring Phil Harris, Sebastian Cabot. Disney, $39.99, 2/11/2014.
