41. You Can't Take It With You [Blu-Ray] (1938)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: You Can’t Take It With You doesn’t stand as one of the strongest Best Picture winners, and it doesn’t even appear to be one of Frank Capra’s top flicks. Nonetheless, it comes across as generally likeable and amusing, and it does more right than wrong. Starring Jean Arthur, Lionel Barrymore. Sony, $59.95, 12/5/2006.

42. The Philadelphia Story: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1940)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Philadelphia Story is a fun and witty flick that shows few serious flaws. I wasn’t wild about the abrupt ending, which presented a twist that seemed to exist simply for the sake of being unexpected, but otherwise it’s a solid and entertaining piece of work. Starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn. Criterion, $39.95, 11/7/2017.

43. The Greatest Show On Earth (1952)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: In a year that saw the theatrical release of both High Noon and Singin’ In the Rain, for some unfathomable reason, The Greatest Show on Earth won the Oscar as Best Picture. However, even without that steep competition, it didn’t deserve the honor, or any honor, for that matter. It’s a dull clunker that fails in almost all conceivable ways. Starring Charl

44. Vertigo [4K UHD] (1958)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Often regarded as Alfred Hitchcock’s greatest achievement, I admit Vertigo tends to leave me a little cold. However, I recognize that it offers a well-crafted tale with plenty of psychological depth and intrigue on display. Starring James Stewart, Kim Novak. Universal, $29.98, 9/7/2021.

45. After The Thin Man: The Complete Thin Man Collection (1936)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Many folks seem to regard After the Thin Man as a film as good if not better than its predecessor. I don’t agree with that. I thought After was a fairly lazy rehash of the original and it lacked much of the same spirit or creativity. Starring William Powell, Myrna Loy. Warner, 59.92, 8/2/2005.

48. Wife vs. Secretary [Blu-Ray] (1936)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Given its cast packed with legends, I expected greatness from Wife vs. Secretary. Instead I found a tentative and mediocre mix of comedy and melodrama. Starring Clark Gable, Jean Harlow. Warner, $21.99, 1/24/2023.

49. The Concorde... Airport '79 [Blu-Ray] (1979)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A friend views The Concorde… Airport ‘79 as the best of the series because this friend delights in terrible, campy flicks. If you’re into odiferous cheese, you’ll likely dig Concorde as well, for smelly movies rarely stink this badly. Starring Alain Delon, Susan Blakely. Universal, $34.98, 6/14/2016.
