11. The Assassination Of Richard Nixon (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While I take issue with the manner in which it treats its main character, The Assassination of Richard Nixon provides a reasonably involving take on a mentally disturbed man. It brings a generally-forgotten historical event to the limelight and presents a generally well-executed take on the topic. Starring Sean Penn, Naomi Watts. New Line, $27.95, 4/26/2

12. The Interpreter (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Interpreter offers a perfectly serviceable thriller – no more and no less. It benefits from a reasonably tight focus on plot and a lack of genre trappings but simply lacks the depth and intrigue necessary to make it more compelling. Starring Nicole Kidman, Sean Penn. Universal, $29.98, 10/4/2005.

13. Mystic River [Blu-Ray] (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Many thought Mystic River deserved to win the Best Picture Oscar for 2003. I didn’t, but I nonetheless found a lot to admire about this well-executed movie. It depicts a complex character tale adeptly and benefits from restrained storytelling and excellent acting. The Blu-ray presents strong picture quality plus more than adequate audio and an erratic bu

14. The Thin Red Line: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1998)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While I won’t call The Thin Red Line a bad film, it’s definitely not one that appealed to me. I’ve now seen it three times, and though I appreciated it more with repetition - once freed from the expectations I had prior to my initial viewing - I still found little in it to sustain my attention or involve me. I thought it was lovely but ultimately empty.

15. Fast Times At Ridgemont High: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1982)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The launching pad for many famous actors, Fast Times At Ridgemont High remains an entertaining flick. It’s fun to see due to all the well-known participants, and it manages a reasonable amount of good material despite some inconsistencies. Starring Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh. Criterion, $39.95, 5/11/2021.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Does The Angry Birds Movie provide a great animated comedy? No, but with a fine voice cast, it overcomes its questionable origins to deliver a reasonably entertaining tale. Starring Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad. Sony, $45.99, 8/16/2016.

19. Carlito's Way: Ultimate Edition (1993)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: An unusual take on the gangster genre, Carlito’s Way mostly succeeds. It occasionally goes off-track with some weak plot threads, but it usually keeps us interested and involved. Starring Al Pacino, Sean Penn. Universal, $22.98, 9/13/2005.

20. Taps: 25th Anniversary Special Edition (1981)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Taps is a pretty good movie that at least merits a rental. As far as purchase, should fans who own the original release “upgrade” to this special edition? I’d say no. The picture and quality remain the same, and the extras aren’t substantial enough to warrant another purchase. New fans will want to go with the special edition, though, as the supplements
