141. King Kong [Blu-Ray] (1933)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Still a wild ride after nearly 80 years, King Kong holds up surprisingly well. Inevitably, it shows its age in some ways, but these don’t alleviate its excitement and drama. The Blu-ray presents great picture and good audio for a movie of this one’s vintage. As for the extras, the audio commentary is a serious disappointment, but the other components mo

142. King Kong: Special Edition (1933)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Still a wild ride after more than 70 years, King Kong holds up surprisingly well. Inevitably, it shows its age in some ways, but these don’t alleviate its excitement and drama. Starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong. Warner, $26.99, 11/22/2005.

143. Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas (Criterion Collection) [Blu-Ray] (1998)
Reviewed by David Williams: Wild and unhinged like the novel that inspired it, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas won’t be for everyone. Nonetheless, it offers an uninhibited take on its source and can be fascinating viewing. The Blu-ray provides mediocre audio but picture and supplements are very good. This becomes a fine release for an unusual movie. Starring Johnny Depp, Benicio Del

144. Waiting: Special Edition (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Despite occasional gags that aptly recreate the experience of restaurant work, most of Waiting… focuses on cheesy toilet humor. There’s a lot of crassness and little actual inspiration ... If you like the movie, this is a good disc, but I can’t recommend it as a blind buy. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris. Artisan, $28.98, 2/7/2006.

145. Full Metal Jacket: Warner Home Video Director's Series (1987)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Full Metal Jacket remains a decent flick, albeit one with little point or flair to distinguish it from others in its genre. And that’s a problem, as we expect more than “decent” from Stanley Kubrick. It’s one of his lesser films ... Note that this special edition of Full Metal Jacket appears only as part of a six-feature set called “Warner Home Video Dir

146. Austin Powers in Goldmember [Blu-Ray] (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Not as good as the first but much better than the second, Austin Powers In Goldmember doesn’t offer a comedy classic, but it provides enough humor to merit a look. Though the movie wallows in a little too much excrement – literally – it enjoys some good performances and quite a few solid moments. Starring Mike Myers, Beyonce Knowles. New Line, $14.9

148. Jaws [Blu-Ray] (1975)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After 37 years, Jaws remains one of the all-time great films. Tight, briskly-paced and fully engrossing, it deserves its status as a classic. The Blu-ray offers excellent picture and audio as well as a broad and engaging set of supplements. This is as good as movies get, and the Blu-ray easily becomes the best home video version of it seen to date – by a

149. Jaws: 30th Anniversary Edition (1975)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you don’t own a prior version of Jaws, run to the store and buy this 30th Anniversary Edition; it’s the best release of the film available. However, if you do possess one of the 25th anniversary discs, you’ll find only two reasons to “upgrade”: the inclusion of the original monaural soundtrack and the restoration of the full two-hour “Making of Jaws”
