81. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Extended Edition) [Blu-Ray 3D] (2012)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While not as good as any of the Lord of the Rings films, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey launches a new franchise in an enjoyable manner. The movie’s “Extended Edition” delivers a mild variation on the theatrical cut that’s fun to see but doesn’t substantially alter/improve the original. Starring Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman. New Line, $39.98, 11/5/201

82. Contact (1997)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though it doesn’t always succeed, Contact provides an above-average piece of science fiction. It manages something more thought provoking than usual and works fairly well, though it remains too darned long ... This turns into a solid release that holds up well despite a few visual concerns. Starring Jodie Foster, Matthew McConaughey. Warner, $14.96, 12/1

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Long on visual razzle-dazzle but short in most other areas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory offers a flawed adaptation of a classic work. The movie has its moments but doesn’t compare favorably with its cinematic predecessor. The Blu-ray presents very positive picture and audio along with a nice collection of supplements. The movie is an erratic fantas

89. Band of Brothers: Gift Set Edition [Blu-Ray] (2001)
Reviewed by Colin Jaacobson: Fully deserving of the recognition it has received, Band of Brothers is epic in its intensity and scope. It delivers a strong, engrossing, and emotional take on aspects of the European theater during WWII. The Blu-ray provides very good picture and supplements along with stunning audio. This ends up as a fine release for a memorable mini-series. Starrin
