23. The Avengers [Blu-Ray 3D] (2012)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As an old-time comic book fan who has owned a copy of Avengers #1 for 30-plus years, I want to love the series’ big-screen debut. Unfortunately, I don’t; while I think it’s a reasonably fun film, it’s never better than “pretty good”. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans. Disney, $49.99, 9/25/2012.

25. Thor [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As someone who never was wild about the comic series, I didn’t expect much from Thor. While I can’t say the film dazzles, it does entertain and it brings the characters/situations to life in a fairly satisfying manner. The Blu-ray presents strong visuals, excellent audio and a nice set of bonus materials highlighted by a terrific commentary. Thor doesn’t

26. The Cabin In The Woods [Blu-Ray] (2012)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although I have some minor gripes about the film’s framework, I think the many positives of The Cabin in the Woods far outweigh those complaints. Most of the movie proves to be clever and inventive. The Blu-ray comes with very good audio and supplements, but picture tends to be murky, probably due to cinematographic choices. Overall, I like this release

27. Star Trek [4K UHD] (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While it delivers a rousing adventure, the 2009 reboot just doesn’t feel enough like Star Trek to totally satisfy. The 4K UHD boasts improved picture and audio compared to the original Blu-ray. Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto. Paramount, $24.99, 6/14/2016.

28. Star Trek [Blu-Ray] (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a series reboot, Star Trek came as a tremendous financial success. Does it work as well in terms of its creative side? Yes and no. While it’s a rousing adventure, it just doesn’t feel enough like Star Trek to totally satisfy. The Blu-ray provides excellent picture and audio along with a terrific set of supplements. Though I have a few reservations abo

29. Vacation [Blu-Ray] (2015)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Whether we view it as a remake or a reboot or a sequel, 2015’s Vacation becomes a weak film. It offers a handful of laughs but lacks much comedic zeal. Starring Ed Helms, Christina Applegate. Warner, $44.95, 11/3/2015.

30. The Last Song [Blu-Ray] (2010)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With The Last Song, Miley Cyrus moves toward the grown-up portion of her career. She takes little more than baby steps, though, so anyone who expects her to separate herself from her prefab image will feel disappointed in this trite, ordinary melodrama. The Blu-ray provides generally good picture and audio along with a few reasonably useful supplements.
