- 23. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Extended Edition) [Blu-Ray 3D] (2012)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While not as good as any of the Lord of the Rings films, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey launches a new franchise in an enjoyable manner. The movie’s “Extended Edition” delivers a mild variation on the theatrical cut that’s fun to see but doesn’t substantially alter/improve the original. Starring Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman. New Line, $39.98, 11/5/201

- 25. Ocean's 11 [Blu-Ray] (1960)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: On the list of “remakes that surpass the originals”, we’ll have to include the 2001 version of Ocean’s Eleven. The 1960 edition has a fun concept and some legends in its cast, but it’s downright dull and fails to deliver an enjoyable experience. The Blu-ray provides good audio, excellent visuals and a small set of supplements highlighted by a mostly enjo

- 26. Airport (1970)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While Airport launched the disaster flick boom of the Seventies, it doesn’t stand as one of the genre’s more interesting releases. Indeed, I think it’s probably one of the most boring examples of this kind of movie, as it pours on too much soap opera and too little action or intrigue. Starring Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin. Universal, $19.98, 2/10/2004.

- 27. The Patriot: Extended Cut (2000)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Is there any reason for fans to bother with this “Extended Cut” of The Patriot? I don’t think so. It presents picture and audio that seem virtually the same as prior DVDs, and the longer edition of the film doesn’t make it any better. It also loses some extras. Whether you prefer the standard DVD or the Superbit release, either of those offers a better P

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As the opening chapter of a three-part saga, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey introduces us to its tale well. Though some scenes threaten to sag, they remain enjoyable and engaging, so the film keeps us with it across its long running time. The Blu-ray boasts excellent picture and audio along with a pretty informative collection of video blogs. While no

- 29. Flyboys: Collector's Edition (2006)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I can’t recommend the movie, and I find it tough to advise fans of Flyboys to pick up this “Collector’s Edition”. It adds some decent supplements not found on the single-disc edition. However, I don’t think these are good enough to warrant the price, as the CE costs $10 more than the one-DVD version. It’s a good package but not worth the $40 list price.
