41. Devil's Partner [Blu-Ray] (1961)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With its tale of Satanic rituals and conspiracies, Devil’s Partner boasts some potential as a horror thriller. Unfortunately, it spills too many beans too soon and lacks even basic suspense. Starring Ed Nelson, Jean Allison. Film Masters, $29.95, 1/16/2024.

42. Cool Hand Luke [Blu-Ray] (1967)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Cool Hand Luke isn’t just a film with an anti-hero: it’s pretty much anti-everything. This is a movie packed with dysfunctional, flawed characters – and it’s darned fascinating due to those choices. Starring Paul Newman, George Kennedy. Warner, $14.97, 9/9/2008.

This is a movie packed with dysfunctional, flawed characters – and it’s darned fascinating due to those choices. The DVD features very good picture, era-appropriate audio, and a few informative extras. Luke remains an excellent movie, and this new DVD is the one to own.

44. Cool Hand Luke (1967)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Cool Hand Luke isn’t just a film with an anti-hero: it’s pretty much anti-everything. This is a movie packed with dysfunction, flawed characters – and it’s darned fascinating due to those choices. The DVD doesn’t work as well, unfortunately. It provides adequate audio but suffers from poor visuals and no substantial supplements. Luke is a great flick, bu

45. Matalo [Blu-Ray] (1970)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Arguably the weirdest Spaghetti Western ever made, Matalo deserves lots of credit for its daring nature and willingness to break from genre confines. However, it loses its way too quickly and ends up as a noble but spotty experiment. Starring Corrado Pani, Claudia Gravy. Arrow, $99.95, 7/25/23.

46. The Fly [Blu-Ray] (1958)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While it doesn’t compare favorably with its 1986 remake, the original 1958 Fly has creepy charms of its own. Yeah, it becomes cheesy at times, but it provides a reasonably effective little horror tale. The Blu-ray delivers erratic but mostly good picture and audio along with a few decent supplements. I can’t say the Blu-ray impresses me, but it brings us

47. The Wild One: Stanley Kramer Film Collection (1953)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though it really shows its age at times, The Wild One has enough going for it to make it worthwhile. In particular, excellent performances from Marlon Brando and Lee Marvin keep our attention. The DVD presents very good picture, perfectly solid audio and a few useful extras. This release represents its movie well. Starring Marlon Brando, Mary Murphy. Son

48. Laura [Blu-Ray] (1944)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A sterling example of a film noir, Laura continues to sparkle nearly 70 years after its creation. With rich, involving characters and a plot that features terrific twists and turns, it becomes a lively little murder mystery. The Blu-ray provides very good picture, acceptable audio and a solid set of supplements. This delivers a very nice release for a cl

49. Knockaround Guys (2001)
Reviewed by David Williams: It’s an entertaining film – far from great – and one that’s worth a rainy day rental in my opinion.

50. Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Speed 2 offers a boring and brainless affair that shames the name of the original.
