31. Backdraft [Blu-Ray] (1991)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With 1991’s Backdraft, we get yet another Ron Howard movie neutered by the director’s relentless mediocrity. Like most of his flicks, Backdraft maintains a stalwart sense of professionalism but it fails to ever become anything more involving. Starring Kurt Russell, William Baldwin. Universal, $14.98, 1/4/2011.

32. Bright Lights, Big City: Special Edition (1988)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: For a glimpse at pure, unadulterated Eighties cheese, Bright Lights, Big City lacks many peers. Though it wants to provide a hard-hitting view of the period’s excesses, instead it just gives us a silly, superficial piece of fluff ... This becomes a decent release for a silly movie. Starring Michael J. Fox, Kiefer Sutherland. MGM, $14.98, 9/2/2008.

33. National Lampoon's Animal House: Double Secret Probation Edition (1978)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: One of cinema’s enduring comedy classics, I think National Lampoon’s Animal House holds up pretty well after 30 years. While I don’t believe it’s quite as good as its legend indicates, it does amuse ... I’m not wild about the transfer, but the disc mostly satisfies. Starring John Belushi, Tim Matheson. Universal, $19.98, 8/26/2003.

35. National Lampoon's Animal House: Double Secret Probation Edition (1978)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though it satisfies less than its prior release. Both this “30th Anniversary Edition” and the 2003 “Double Secret Probation Edition” sport similar picture and audio, but the earlier set includes superior supplements. Since the 2003 disc is now out of print, you might be out of luck and stuck with the newer one, but if you can find it, the “Double Secret”

While I don’t believe it’s quite as good as its legend indicates, it does amuse. The Blu-ray offers inconsistent picture that tends to look a bit too spiffy along with decent audio and some good supplements. This isn’t a bad re

38. Horrible Bosses [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Like most comedies, Horrible Bosses lives and dies with its actors. Despite a few dodgy moments, the film usually prospers due to its cast – especially Jennifer Aniston, who nearly steals the movie as a sexually-charged dentist. Starring Jason Bateman, Charlie Day. Warner, $35.99, 10/11/2011.

39. Cold Mountain [Blu-Ray] (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I can’t say that I felt surprised that I didn’t think much of Cold Mountain, since I didn’t care for the same director’s The English Patient. Since I did enjoy his Talented Mr. Ripley, I figured all wasn’t lost, but Mountain is much closer in spirit and story to Patient, which means it also seems fairly sappy and inane. The Blu-ray offers very good pictu
