31. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Very few sequels clearly surpass their predecessors, but The Empire Strikes Back outdoes Star Wars in almost every manner. As fantastic as the original remains, Empire seems even more dazzling and memorable. Starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher. Fox, $69.98, 9/21/2004.

32. Fantasia 2000 [Blu-Ray] (2000)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I won’t find much company, but I think Fantasia 2000 provides a more enjoyable experience than its legendary predecessor. As a work of pure art, it doesn’t compare, but it offers superior entertainment. The Blu-ray boasts excellent picture and audio along with a few interesting supplements. I remain disappointed the set leaves out so many of the bonus fe

33. JFK [Blu-Ray] (1991)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Oliver Stone has yet to make a better film than 1991’s JFK. However, Stone abuses his power so egregiously that I have a difficult time appreciating JFK because it’s such a load of hooey. Starring Kevin Costner, Kevin Bacon. Warner, $24.98, 11/11/2008.

34. JFK: 2003 Special Edition (1991)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: For those who already own a prior JFK DVD, the question of “upgrade” comes into play. If you only have the old “flipper”, I’d definitely recommend this 2003 set; it improves upon the original disc in every way. However, if you possess the 2001 special edition release, I’d stick with it. That one and the 2003 version are almost identical. This package add

35. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I adored Star Wars as a kid and I’ve yet to find any reason to change that opinion. This version presents more than a few alterations to the original movie, but it still provides the same excitement and freshness that made it a winner 27 years ago. Written & Directed by George Lucas. Fox, $69.98, 9/21/2004.

36. JFK: 50 Year Commemorative Ultimate Collector's Edition [Blu-Ray] (1991)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Oliver Stone has yet to make a better film than 1991’s JFK. However, Stone abuses his power so egregiously that I have a difficult time appreciating JFK because it’s such a load of hooey. Starring Kevin Costner,Kevin Bacon. Warner, $59.99, 11/12/2013.

37. JFK: Ultimate Collector's Edition (1991)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: (A) double – or triple, or quadruple – dip (is) difficult to recommend. Objectively, the UCE provides the best release of JFK simply because it has all the supplements from the prior versions along with some new materials. However, its semi-high price makes it a tough sell. If you really, really dig JFK, I’d say go for it, but I think the 2003 SE remains

38. Band of Brothers: Gift Set Edition [Blu-Ray] (2001)
Reviewed by Colin Jaacobson: Fully deserving of the recognition it has received, Band of Brothers is epic in its intensity and scope. It delivers a strong, engrossing, and emotional take on aspects of the European theater during WWII. The Blu-ray provides very good picture and supplements along with stunning audio. This ends up as a fine release for a memorable mini-series. Starrin

39. The Lion King: Platinum Edition (1994)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The movie stands as one of Disney’s finest and contains to impress after almost a decade. The DVD presents excellent picture and sound along with that moderately disappointing but still extensive set of supplements. Disney have produced another “must-have” DVD with this fine release of The Lion King. Disney, $29.99, 10/7/2003.

40. Coming To America (1988)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Eddie Murphy’s last genuine hit for almost a decade, Coming to America hasn’t aged particularly well. Too long and too inconsistent, the movie has some laughs but not enough to make it a winner ... This is a bland release for a spotty flick. Starring Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall. Paramount, $12.98, 3/9/1999.
