21. Flyboys (2006)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Not a single original, inventive or interesting moment ever crops up in Flyboys. With an emphasis on the birth of war aviation, it could have been a fascinating take on an unusual subject. Instead, it offers the same old warmed-over tripe we’ve seen 10,000 times in the past. Starring James Franco, Philip Winchester. MGM, $29.99, 1/30/2007.

22. The Great Raid: Collector's Series (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Stiff and uninspired, The Great Raid has the right motives but lacks the heart to succeed. It suffers from dreary storytelling and a general absence of passion. This makes it shockingly inert for a movie with so much potential for power. Starring Benjamin Bratt, James Franco. Fox, $39.99, 12/20/2005.

23. Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Rise of the Planet of the Apes turned into one of 2011’s most pleasant cinematic surprises. It helps relaunch the franchise in a terrific manner, as it mixes drama and action well. The Blu-ray provides excellent visuals and audio as well as a pretty interesting set of supplements. I definitely recommend this exciting film and quality Blu-ray. Starring Ja

24. Spider-Man 3 (2012 Re-Issue) [Blu-Ray] (2007)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: ... If you already have the 2007 Blu-ray, there’s no reason whatsoever to get this one. If you don’t own that one and don’t care about the missing extras, this one might be the way to go – it sells for a little cheaper than the two-disc set. Starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst. Sony, $19.99, 6/12/2012.

26. 11.22.63 [Blu-Ray] (2016)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Given my interest in the Kennedy assassination and its intriguing premise, I expected to really enjoy 11.22.63. Unfortunately, the end result seems less than scintillating, as the series occasionally comes to life but too often seems meandering and contrived. Starring James Franco, Sarah Gadon. Warner, $39.99, 8/9/2016.

27. Freaks And Geeks: The Complete Series [Blu-Ray] (1999)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: In the annals of late, great lost TV treasures, Freaks and Geeks might go down as the best. Impeccably acted, tightly written and directed, and terrifically entertaining, the series died before its time. Starring Linda Cardellini, James Franco. Shout Factory, $79.99, 3/22/2016.

28. Pineapple Express [Blu-Ray 4K] (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Plop Pineapple Express at the top of a list of comedic disappointments. I found a mere handful of minor laughs here, as the vast majority of the movie left me bored. The Blu-ray presents great picture and good audio along with no supplements. The absence of the bonus materials disappoints, but this Blu-ray presents the film well. Starring Seth Rogen, Jam

29. White House Down [Blu-Ray] (2013)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: No one will mistake White House Down for great cinema, but it doesn’t aspire to be anything more than what it is: a big, loud, fun popcorn movie. Down gives us a consistently breezy, exciting adventure despite its intellectual failings. The Blu-ray presents very good picture and terrific audio but lacks especially interesting bonus materials. 30. Milk (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Well-intentioned but one-dimensional and stale, Milk does a disservice to its subject matter. Rather than give us a three-dimensional view of pioneering politician Harvey Milk, we find a portrait without nuance or depth. Only Sean Penn’s stellar lead performance makes the film watchable ...
