11. Labyrinth: Anniversary Edition (1986)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As with any movie that’s gone through multiple DVD re-releases, the question becomes which one is the best. I think that this “Anniversary Edition” stands as the most appealing of the four, but don’t expect it to blow away the old versions. Starring David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly. Columbia TriStar, $24.96, 8/14/2007.

12. Blood Diamond: Special Edition (2006)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: At its best, Blood Diamond provides an involving look at how gem smuggling affects a war-torn country. Unfortunately, it doesn’t often stay at its best; the movie degenerates into a trite and preachy tale before too long. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou. Warner, $34.99, 3/20/2007.

13. Only the Brave (2017)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although much of Only the Brave feels fairly typical for its genre, the movie gains impact at its conclusion. A tale with a brutal, emotionally wrenching finale, that last act gives it strength. Starring Josh Brolin, Miles Teller. Sony, $30.99, 2/6/2018.

14. The Rocketeer [Blu-Ray] (1991)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I liked The Rocketeer. It's a fun movie that neatly captures the spirit of superheroes from the Golden Age of comic books. The Blu-ray delivers very good picture and audio but lacks substantial supplements. That’s too bad, and it makes a recommendation more difficult; with a list price of about $27, the Blu-ray is rather expensive for a bare bones releas

15. Top Gun: Maverick [4K UHD] (2022)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Audiences loved Top Gun: Maverick, but beyond 1980s nostalgia, I admit I fail to grasp the reason for its immense popularity. While it offers some excellent aerial action scenes, the story and characters seem so thin and banal that they drag down the impact of the positives. Starring Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly. Paramount, $37.99, 10/31/2022.

16. Labyrinth: Superbit (1986)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Labyrinth is a mildly entertaining diversion that offers many solid fantasy components but it never quite gels into a truly magical experience.

17. The Day The Earth Stood Still [Blu-Ray] (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Fans of the original Day the Earth Stood Still greeted its 2008 remake with outrage. I’d like to join them but the new version is just so darned dull that I can’t muster the energy; I don’t care enough about this film to feel real emotion toward it. The Blu-ray provides generally good picture, excellent audio, and a reasonably informative set of extras.

19. Alita: Battle Angel [4K UHD/Blu-Ray 3D] (2019)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Literally years in the making, Alita: Battle Angel doesn’t seem worth the long wait. While the film occasionally springs to life, it lacks consistency and bores more than it delights. Starring Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz. Fox, $39.99, 7/23/2019.
