11. Fort Apache [Blu-Ray] (1948)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With John Ford behind the camera and Henry Fonda and John Wayne in front of it, Fort Apache boasted the potential to become a great film. And it threatens to reach the level, but its first two acts meander too much for it to get there. The Blu-ray provides very good picture, perfectly acceptable audio and a reasonably informative commentary. While I thin

12. The Comancheros [Blu-Ray] (1961)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I don’t know how serious John Wayne fans regard 1961’s The Comancheros, but I’d guess it’s seen as “B”-level Duke at best. While not a bad flick, it’s a decidedly mediocre one without a whole lot to allow it to excel. The Blu-ray comes with erratic but generally positive picture and audio as well as a fairly interesting set of supplements. I’ve seen wors

13. Stagecoach: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1939)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: For fans who want the best-looking version of Stagecoach, this Blu-ray is the way to go, though they shouldn’t expect miracles, as the transfer continued to show many defects. Nonetheless, it was the most appealing presentation I’ve seen, and it could be very solid at times. This becomes the strongest release of Stagecoach on the market, though serious f

14. Chisum [Blu-Ray] (1970)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: In one of his final films, John Wayne shows good heart and spirit. Unfortunately, the rest of Chisum lets him down, as it delivers a forgettable Western. Starring John Wayne, Ben Johnson. Warner, $14.97, 6/7/2016.

15. Stagecoach (1939)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Stagecoach is absolutely terrific and clearly deserves its status as a classic. It’s one of those rare films that makes me want to see more from its participants. Unfortunately, the DVD presents flawed picture and forgettable extras. The film’s worth a look, but this remains a disappointing release. Starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor. Warner, $14.98, 10/

16. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Extended Edition) [Blu-Ray] (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Two Towers doesn’t feel as engrossing as its predecessor, but that’s almost inevitable given its spot as the middle chapter of a trilogy. It’s still an excellent movie that continues the tale well. The Blu-ray adds 44 minutes of mostly useful and entertaining material that serves to make the film even stronger than its Oscar-nominated theatrical cut.

17. True Grit: Special Collector's Edition (1969)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: (I) can’t recommend this version of True Grit. Granted, since I don’t think a lot of the movie, I wouldn’t give it much of an endorsement anyway, but the ugly visuals mean that I wouldn’t recommend this disc even to big fans ... If you love Grit, stay with the flawed but superior transfer of the old DVD. Starring John Wayne, Glen Campbell. Paramount, $19

18. Rio Lobo (1970)
Reviewed by David Williams: While Rio Lobo may not be one of the classics in the genre, it definitely serves as close to two-hours of solid entertainment and I can’t think of anyone who couldn’t find something to enjoy about it.

19. The Quiet Man [Blu-Ray] (1952)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A dreamy, romantic vision of Ireland, The Quiet Man fares best when it concentrates on its delightful supporting characters. When it sticks with its leads, though, it seems less endearing. Starring John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara. Olive, $39.95, 10/25/2016.

20. True Grit [Blu-Ray] (1969)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: True Grit provides a fairly ordinary Western experience from John Wayne's final years as an actor. It offers only a mildly entertaining adventure, as it suffers from a hokiness that harms it. The Blu-ray gives us pretty good picture, acceptable audio, and a decent roster of supplements. I don’t think a lot of the movie, but the Blu-ray brings it home in
