11. Pride and Prejudice [Blu-Ray] (1940)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As the earliest cinematic adaptation of the novel, 1940’s Pride and Prejudice stands as a historical curiosity. The movie becomes fairly engaging in its own right, even if the leads don’t excel. Starring Greer Garson, Laurence Olivier. Warner, $21.99, 7/14/2020.

12. Rebecca: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1940)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While Rebecca may never be one of my favorite Hitchcock flicks, it nonetheless holds up much better than the vast majority of movies from the 1940s (or 1930s or 1950s or 1960s... oh, you get my point). It remains a compelling and haunting experience. Starring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine. Criterion, $39.95, 9/5/2017.

14. Spartacus [Blu-Ray] (1960)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: (C)oncerns make it very tough for me to recommend this Blu-ray to fans. No, Spartacus didn’t look awful, but it gave us a transfer far inferior to what we should have received. Until/unless Universal fixes this disappointing presentation, fans should just stick with their DVDs, especially if they already own the Criterion edition from 2001. Starring Kir

15. Battle Of Britain (1969)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Something like The Battle of Britain should have been right up my alley. Unfortunately, the film skimped on excitement and concentrated too much on spectacle and its thinly drawn characters. Starring Michael Caine, Laurence Olivier. MGM, $14.95, 5/20/2003.

16. Battle Of Britain: Collector's Edition (1969)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I don’t like Battle enough to recommend it for a “blind buy”, but this is a good purchase for fans. That goes for folks who already own the original “movie-only” DVD. This special edition offers improved picture and audio plus many extras not found on the prior disc. Fans will be happy to get this upgrade. Starring Michael Caine, Laurence Olivier. MGM, $

17. Perfect Understanding [Blu-Ray] (1933)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With two film legends on screen and another at the writing desk, I hoped Perfect Understanding would live up to its billing as a “rarely seen gem”. Instead, I got a slow, dreary tale with forgettable characters and precious little entertainment value. Picture and audio seem acceptable for their age, and we get a couple of moderately amusing shorts as bon
