222. Save The Date (2012)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Tedious and self-involved, Save the Date becomes a chore to watch. It focuses on a group of characters so unlikable that it becomes difficult to invest in their stories. The DVD delivers generally good picture and audio along with a small but interesting set of bonus materials. Maybe others will get something from this effort, but it leaves me cold. Star

223. Smokin' Aces [Blu-Ray] (2006)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A messy melange of cheap humor, annoyingly quirky characters, inconsistent tone and excessive exposition and dialogue, Smokin’ Aces flops in almost every possible way. It never remotely gels into a coherent experience, as it jumps around so much that it can’t connect with the viewer. Not that most folks will care, as they’ll abandon this stinker within t

224. Deadgirl: 15th Anniversary Edition [Blu-Ray] (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a genre change of pace, Deadgirl scores some points, but its execution comes with too many pitfalls for it to become a success. The film jumps from one tone to another in a clumsy manner that makes it falter. Starring Shiloh Fernandez, Noah Segan. Unearthed, $34.99. 10/24/2023.

225. Cabaret [Blu-Ray Book] (1972)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Cabaret’s positive reputation has endured over the last 40 years, but I must admit I don’t really get the film’s appeal. I think it offers some strong production numbers but the thinness of its story and characters makes it less than involving. The Blu-ray delivers good picture and audio along with a fairly nice roster of bonus materials. While I’m not w

226. The Asphalt Jungle: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1950)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Unusually character driven for a 'heist movie', The Asphalt Jungle uses its expository time well. It also comes to life with excitement when necessary to create a vivid, involving drama. Starring Sterling Hayden, Jean Hagen. Criterion, $39.95, 12/13/2016.

227. Mars Attacks! (1996)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: In the end, if you've enjoyed other Tim Burton films like Pee-wee's Big Adventure or Beetlejuice, you're likely to get into Mars Attacks! The movie presents a spotty affair but includes enough entertainment to merit a look. Starring Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close. Warner, $14.98, 9/3/1997.

228. Cabaret (1972)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Cabaret’s positive reputation has endured over the last 35 years, but I must admit I don’t really get the film’s appeal. I think it offers some strong production numbers but the thinness of its story and characters makes it less than involving. Starring Liza Minnelli, Michael York. Warner, $14.98, 8/19/2003.

229. Cars 3 [Blu-Ray 3D] (2017)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As the franchise’s third entry, Cars 3 feels a bit flat and without real purpose. While it still keeps us moderately entertained, the film simply lacks great wit or spirit. Starring Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo. Disney, $19.99, 11/7/2017.

230. The Blind Side [Blu-Ray] (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Why did The Blind Side earn about $250 million at the box office and snare Sandra Bullock an Oscar? I don’t know. While the movie provides enjoyable “feel good” entertainment, little about it stands out from its genre crowd, so I can’t figure out why it struck it so big. The Blu-ray provides very good picture but comes with average audio and supplements.
