- 211. Amazing Stories: The Complete First Season (1985)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Back in the Eighties, Amazing Stories never quite seemed to live up to its potential. Viewed 20 years later, the shows vary in quality. Some shine brightly, others meander and lack an impact. Overall, the series has enough hits to be generally entertaining. Created by Steven Spielberg. Universal, $49.98, 7/18/2006.

- 212. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind [4K UHD] (1977)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Close Encounters of the Third Kind remains a classic, as Steven Spielberg tells an enchanting story of our first formal meeting with aliens. He utilizes a first-person point of view that makes the tale accessible and moving, and he fulfills the entire project with beauty and style. Starring Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut. Sony, $30.99, 9/19/2017.

- 213. The Fall Of The Roman Empire: Limited Collector's Edition (1964)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Fall of the Roman Empire offers a fitfully successful film. It boasts stellar production values, a few excellent performances, and some intriguing story threads, but the pacing lags at times, and a weak turn by its lead actor harms it in a substantial manner. The movie usually works, but it’s less consistent than I’d like ... Nothing here excels, but

- 214. Van Helsing: Collector's Edition (2004)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you want to own Van Helsing and don’t possess the original DVD, the CE is clearly the way to go due to all its extras. If you do already have the old disc, though, it’s tough to recommend an “upgrade”. Sure, the extra platter of supplements is nice, but it’s the only difference between the two, and it’s not worth the additional expense. Starring Hugh

- 216. The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian (Collector's Edition) (2008)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although I didn’t think The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was a great film, it looks like a classic compared to its sequel. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian lacks its predecessor’s minor magic and charm. It provides a fairly tired, dull tale and never manages to become special or involving ... - 217. Spider-Man 3 [Blu-Ray] (2007)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although Spider-Man 3 seems destined to go down as the franchise’s least well-regarded effort – at least of the first three – I don’t agree with all the negativity thrown its way. While the film has its flaws, it still provides a strong adventure with a warm emotional center not usually found in comic book material. It certainly succeeds more than it fai

- 218. Ben-Hur: Collector's Edition (1959)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: More than 40 years after its initial release, Ben-Hur remains the definition of a screen epic. As a film, it still has a lot to offer - particularly in the excellent chariot race sequence - but some other elements haven’t aged quite as well ... This top-notch DVD release does the classic justice. Starring Charlton Heston, Jack Hawkins. Warner, $39.92, 9/

- 219. Cinderella [Blu-Ray] (1950)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Cinderella would deserve a special place in animation history simply because it revived the fortunes at Disney. However, it’s more than that, as the flick is still as charming and winning now as it was 62 years ago. The Blu-ray delivers excellent visuals along with adequate audio and a reasonably interesting set of supplements. I wish we got more extensi

- 220. Schindler's List (1993)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I know I’m firmly in the minority in regard to my negative opinion of Schindler’s List, but I really don’t understand the overwhelming praise given to the movie. It tells an important story but does so with too much manipulation and too little subtlety. Add to that a lack of depth from the characters and it seems like a flawed examination of its subject.
