141. Madonna: Sticky & Sweet Tour [Blu-Ray] (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Decades after her first hits, Madonna shows no signs of leaving pop culture any time soon, and Sticky & Sweet reminds us why. It offers another in a consistent series of excellent live concerts from one of the world’s greatest live performers. One can argue where the tour stands when compared to Madonna’s other treks, but I think it’s definitely among he

142. The Diary Of Anne Frank [Blu-Ray] (1959)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Diary of Anne Frank takes on an important subject but only provides an occasionally effective examination. While the movie clearly has some terrific moments, it also falls flat at times and seems too erratic to be a thorough winner. Starring Millie Perkins, Shelley Winters. Fox, $34.99, 6/16/2009.

143. Clear and Present Danger: Collector's Edition (1994)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Probably the best of the Jack Ryan flicks, Clear and Present Danger offers a satisfying action flick that consistently fires on all cylinders.

144. Double Indemnity: Legacy Series (1944)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Despite its status as a classic, I found 1944’s Double Indemnity to be less compelling than anticipated, mainly due to the presence of Fred MacMurray in the lead role. Without him, I might have liked it more, but I thought he completely ruined any tension or drama. Starring Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck. Universal, $28.99, 8/22/2006.

145. John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band: Sweet Toronto (1988)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While useful for archival reasons, the concert performance itself simply seems too sloppy and meandering to merit any sort of classic status.

146. The Artist [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Mel Brooks made a silent movie 35 years ago, and he did it better than The Artist. While not devoid of charms, the film relies too much on its basic gimmick and doesn’t bother to develop in other ways sufficient to turn it into anything other than a one-note effort. The Blu-ray provides good picture and audio along with a fluffy set of supplements. Thoug

147. The Birds: Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection (1963)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Good performances, memorable use of sound, and a terrific premise: all of those help make The Birds a winner. I’ve heard rumblings of a remake, but I hope Hollywood leaves well enough alone. This film is more than good enough to stand on its own, and it doesn’t need an update. Starring Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy. Universal, $119.98, 10/4/2005.

148. Gandhi: 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition (1982)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While I don’t care for Gandhi as a film, this 25th Anniversary DVD treats it well. It’s definitely the release to own, and that goes for folks who already have the old disc from 2001. Since this one improves in terms of picture and supplements, it becomes a worthwhile upgrade. Starring Ben Kingsley, Candice Bergen. Sony, $24.96, 2/20/2007.

149. Grease: 40th Anniversary Edition [4K UHD] (1978)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: 40 years after the movie first dazzled me, Grease doesn’t rock my world anymore, but it remains a fairly entertaining little piece of work. Parts of it fall flat, but enough of it seems satisfying to make it a fun program. Starring John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John. Paramount, $31.98, 4/24/2018.
