11. The Lion King 1 1/2 [Blu-Ray] (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: It never equals the heights of the original, but The Lion King 1 ½ nonetheless offers one of Disney’s strongest direct to video pieces. The movie seems light and irreverent as it demythologizes the original in a frisky and clever way. The Blu-ray presents excellent picture with generally good audio and a minor roster of supplements. With a list price of

12. Swing Vote (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After all these decades, filmmakers still try to out-Capra Capra, and Swing Vote falls into that category. Like most of the other imitators, Vote fails in its attempt to follow in Capra’s footsteps – and it can’t even muster a coherent story or logical tale ... A disjointed mess, Swing Vote fails in almost every way as a movie. Starring Kevin Costner, Ma

13. The Lion King: Platinum Edition (1994)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The movie stands as one of Disney’s finest and contains to impress after almost a decade. The DVD presents excellent picture and sound along with that moderately disappointing but still extensive set of supplements. Disney have produced another “must-have” DVD with this fine release of The Lion King. Disney, $29.99, 10/7/2003.

14. The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride (Special Edition) (1998)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Lion King II: Simba's Pride is exactly the kind of film Disney's critics have long accused them of making. It's flat, uninspired and by-the-numbers. While it's perfectly competent and professional, it almost completely lacks any spark and fails to entertain even a big Lion King fan like myself. Starring Matthew Broderick, Neve Campbell. Disney, $29.99, 8

16. The Lion King [Blu-Ray 3D] (1994)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I probably would not claim that The Lion King is my all-time favorite Disney animated film, but it resides very high on that list. The movie stands as one of the finest from Disney and contains to impress after 28 years. Starring Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons. Disney, $49.99, 10/4/2011.

17. wonka.shtml
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a prequel to the 1971 classic, Wonka more than holds its own. Indeed, it brings a vibrant, funny, charming and borderline magical look at the young Willy that tuns into a delight. Starring Timothée Chalamet, Keegan-Michael Key. Warner, $39.98, 2/27/2024.

18. Mirror Mirror [Blu-Ray] (2012)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Maybe someday we’ll find a version of Snow White more enjoyable than the Disney version, but 2012’s Mirror Mirror doesn’t seal that deal. While it offers some appealing visuals, it can’t decide if it wants to be a comedy, a romance or an adventure, and it fails to develop any of those threads well. The Blu-ray comes with very good picture and audio as we

19. Modern Family: The Complete Second Season [Blu-Ray] (2010)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After two seasons, Modern Family continues to offer a fun comedic take on its subject. Though I think the show can be a little too sappy at times, it still delivers enough laughs and charm to succeed. The Blu-ray boasts excellent visuals, acceptable audio and a decent set of supplements. This is a good release for an entertaining series. Starring Ed O’Ne

20. The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride [Blu-Ray] (1998)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Lion King II: Simba's Pride offers a rather blah semi-remake of the original and should provide little of interest in the long run. Of the three Lion King films to date, it’s easily the least compelling, as I much preferred the original flick as well as the wacky Lion King 1 ½. As for the Blu-ray, picture and sound seemed excellent, but the supplemen
