31. Shopping (1994)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Shopping earns some attention for its view of various participants “pre-fame”, but that’s about all it has to offer. As either a gritty character piece or an action film, it flops. The DVD comes with erratic picture and audio as well as a few supplements led by a good commentary. Check out Shopping if you’re curious to see the big-screen debut for Paul W

32. The Towering Inferno: Special Edition (1974)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Maybe it’s just the seven-year-old in me who likes this flick, but I still want to recommend it anyway. It offers a good movie and a fine DVD. That recommendation goes for anyone who already owns the original disc. This one provides comparable audio but boasts superior visuals and a greatly expanded roster of supplements. Starring Steve McQueen, Paul New

34. James And The Giant Peach [Blu-Ray] (1996)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: James and the Giant Peach remains a minor piece of Disney animation, and I prefer big brother The Nightmare Before Christmas, but James certainly offers its fair share of charm and entertainment. The Blu-ray provides strong picture and sound plus a few passably interesting extras. James and the Giant Peach would make a nice addition to the collections o

35. The Towering Inferno [Blu-Ray] (1974)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Blu-ray offers very good audio along and a fairly nice set of extras but picture quality seems erratic ... That means the Blu-ray doesn’t provide a great upgrade over the 2007 SE DVD. Sure, it looks a little better, but it doesn’t blow away its predecessor. If you don’t own any Inferno release, go with the Blu-ray, but I don’t think it’s worth the mo

36. Saturday Night Live: The Early Years - The Best of Seasons 1-5 (1975-1980)

Of course, the episodes vary in quality, but Early Years offers a nice snapshot. Starring Chevy Chase, John Belushi. Time Life, $104.98, 11/10/2020.

37. Alien Anthology: Bonus Material [Blu-Ray] (2010)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: ... I remain happy with the “Anthology”. It includes some of my all-time favorite movies and brings them to Blu-ray in generally good style. It’s certainly a dream for folks who want to know more about the series’ creation, as it comes packed with more supplements than I’d have dreamed possible. All of this makes me pretty pleased with this massive set.

39. The Towering Inferno (1974)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: In no way can I call The Towering Inferno a great piece of work. However, it remains a lot of fun and stands as probably the best of the disaster genre. Nostalgia or no, this is an entertaining flick. Starring Steve McQueen, Paul Newman. Fox, $9.98, 3/9/1999.

40. A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The movie suffered from some of director Ron Howard’s soppy tendencies, but it usually came across as a believable and compelling examination of one man’s battle with mental illness.
