- 122. The Birds: Collector's Edition (1963)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Good performances, memorable use of sound, and a terrific premise: all of those help make The Birds a winner. I’ve heard rumblings of a remake, but I hope Hollywood leaves well enough alone. This film is more than good enough to stand on its own, and it doesn’t need an update. Starring Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy. Universal, $19.98, 3/28/2000.

- 123. Liar Liar [Blu-Ray] (1997)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Liar Liar stands as easily the best film directed by Tom Shadyac, and it’s one of the more satisfying Jim Carrey comedies. Nowhere else does he showcase his talents to such terrific effect. Starring Jim Carrey, Maura Tierney. Universal, $9.98, 7/9/2013.

- 124. The Birds [Blu-Ray] (1963)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although I wouldn’t objectively call The Birds Hitchcock’s best movie, it may offer his most entertaining one. Packed with thrills and tension, it turns into a fun ride. Starring Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy. Universal, $19.98, 5/6/2014.

-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I don’t imagine too many viewers clamored for a Special Edition of this film, but those folks exist, they’ll feel sorely disappointed with this release. It adds almost nothing new to the old disc, so the “Special Edition” claim seems deceptive to me. The movie itself offers a cynical enough enterprise, and this pointless re-release makes matters even wor

-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: ... the biggest problem with Home on the Range: it seems relentlessly ordinary. The actors try desperately to sell the material but can’t overcome its inherent lack of inspiration. This renders Range watchable and superior to some of the studio’s more boring efforts, but it remains a pretty lackluster product. Starring G.W. Bailey, Roseanne. Disney, $29.

- 127. Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief [Blu-Ray] (2010)

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: It seems unlikely that Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief will span a movie franchise. Based on what I saw, I can’t say that upsets me. Thief provides a competent adventure but not one that ever threatens to become especially exciting or involving. The Blu-ray offers very good picture and audio along with a pretty dull compilation of s

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After 40 years, A Clockwork Orange remains an amazing and powerful film. I continue to feel wholeheartedly that it was easily Stanley Kubrick’s best work. The Blu-ray offers good picture, audio and extras. I’m not sure that this is a substantial upgrade over the Special Edition DVD, but if you don’t own that one, go for this Blu-ray release.
