31. Turbo [Blu-Ray] (2013)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With a goofy but fun premise, I hoped Turbo would give us a peppy animated adventure. Unfortunately, the result lacks much charm or creativity; it limps along as a mediocre tale. The Blu-ray comes with excellent picture and audio but lacks substantial bonus features. Turbo offers passable family fare but never reaches higher than that. Starring Ryan Reyn

32. Smokin' Aces (2007)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A messy melange of cheap humor, annoyingly quirky characters, inconsistent tone and excessive exposition and dialogue, Smokin’ Aces flops in almost every possible way. It never remotely gels into a coherent experience, as it jumps around so much that it can’t connect with the viewer. Not that most folks will care, as they’ll abandon this stinker within t

33. Prime 9: MLB Heroics (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Baseball buffs should love Prime 9. It sparks debate of the sport’s greatest achievements and allows us to learn more about them along the way. The DVD comes with mediocre picture and audio; it also lacks any supplements. Nothing about the presentation impresses, but this is a fun collection of programs that goes for a low price and will be a nice additi

34. X-Men Origins: Wolverine [Blu-Ray] (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While I wouldn’t call X-Men Origins: Wolverine a bad movie, I certainly can’t find much to make it appear particularly good, either. The flick delivers 107 minutes of mild entertainment but does nothing to become memorable or distinctive. The Blu-ray offers inconsistent visuals, good – but not superior – audio and a broad, often engaging collection of su

35. The In-Laws (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I never saw that earlier flick, but I can’t imagine it’s less interesting than the remake. Although I never thought that The In-Laws became a genuinely bad movie, it seems like a mess. It pairs two genres that don’t fit snugly together here, and it fails to satisfy in either regard. Starring Michael Douglas, Albert Brooks. Warner, $27.95, 10/7/2003.

36. Secret Origin: The Story Of DC Comics (2010)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a DVD, this disc offers fairly good picture and acceptable audio but comes with absolutely no supplements. With a list price of $25, that’s a big mistake, and a choice that makes it impossible for me to recommend this disc. In truth, Origin should’ve simply been an extra on another DC-related release. If presented on its own like this, it should’ve co

37. Ted [Blu-Ray] (2012)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Ted comes with a fun premise but inconsistent execution. It mixes clever gags with cheap jokes to offer a tremendously up and down comedic experience. The Blu-ray provides generally good picture and audio along with a fairly useful batch of bonus materials. Ted will probably delight Seth MacFarlane fans but it seems less likely to win over new converts.

39. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - Extended Edition [Blu-Ray 3D] (2013)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As the second chapter in a trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug does fairly well for itself. Though the tale can drag and feel padded at times, it still packs enough adventure and drama to make it an enjoyable experience. Starring Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman. New Line, $39.99, 11/4/2014.

40. The Rhythm Section [Blu-Ray] (2020)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: At its core, The Rhythm Section presents a potentially vivid action-revenge tale. Unfortunately, the end result seems slow and turgid, without the desired visceral impact. Starring Blake Lively, Jude Law. Paramount, $39.99, 4/28/2020.
