52. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - Extended Edition [Blu-Ray 3D] (2013)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As the second chapter in a trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug does fairly well for itself. Though the tale can drag and feel padded at times, it still packs enough adventure and drama to make it an enjoyable experience. Starring Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman. New Line, $39.99, 11/4/2014.

53. Taxi Driver: 2007 Collector's Edition (1976)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I definitely recommend this two-disc Collector’s Edition of Taxi Driver to anyone with an interest in the flick. That goes for fans who already own the old 1999 DVD. This one improves upon its picture and audio and adds a bunch of nice extras. It’s a very strong set. Starring Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster. Sony, $24.96, 8/14/2007.

55. Open Season: Special Edition (2006)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Anyone who looks to Open Season for an inspired animated romp will depart disappointed. The movie avoids the bland mediocrity of some flicks but never manages to make its own name for itself. It feels too derivative and doesn’t boast much to allow it to amuse or delight. Starring Martin Lawrence, Ashton Kutcher. Sony, $29.98, 1/30/2007.

56. Bad Boys 2 (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Too bad Bad Boys II itself wasn’t as interesting. The movie pours on the high-priced mayhem but never delivers a compelling story, intriguing characters, or anything else that would turn it into a stimulating action flick. Starring Will Smith, Martin Lawrence. Columbia, $28.96, 12/9/2003.

57. Extras: The Complete Second Season (2006)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Extras ends its (intentionally) short run with Season Two. If forced to pick, I’d say I prefer Season One, but S2 offers plenty of good material and seems very satisfying. As for the DVD, it offers perfectly decent picture, audio and supplements. The package doesn’t dazzle, but the show is definitely good enough to encourage my recommendation. Starring R

58. Dawn Of The Dead: Ultimate Edition (1978)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Due to the nature of the film, Dawn clearly won’t be for everyone, but horror fans should likely dig this enjoyable flick. As for already-established fans, they should be in heaven with this elaborate and lavish release. I guess someone who a) doesn’t care about supplements, and b) has no interest in alternate versions of Dawn will remain happy with the

59. The Towering Inferno: Special Edition (1974)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Maybe it’s just the seven-year-old in me who likes this flick, but I still want to recommend it anyway. It offers a good movie and a fine DVD. That recommendation goes for anyone who already owns the original disc. This one provides comparable audio but boasts superior visuals and a greatly expanded roster of supplements. Starring Steve McQueen, Paul New

60. Welcome to Marwen [Blu-Ray] (2018)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With an intriguing premise based on a fascinating real-life story as well as a talented cast/crew, Welcome to Marwen prompted reasonably high expectations. Unfortunately, it dashed these, as the film offers a mawkish, erratic and melodramatic affair. Starring Steve Carell, Leslie Mann. Universal, $34.98, 4/9/2019.
