11. Operation Crossbow [Blu-Ray] (1965)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A potentially exciting mix of fact and liberties, Operation Crossbow boasts the bones of a good wartime thriller. Unfortunately, it ignores its strengths too much of the time and becomes a lackluster melodrama. Starring Sophia Loren, George Peppard. Warner, $21.99, 11/12/2019.

12. Battle Of Britain (1969)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Something like The Battle of Britain should have been right up my alley. Unfortunately, the film skimped on excitement and concentrated too much on spectacle and its thinly drawn characters. Starring Michael Caine, Laurence Olivier. MGM, $14.95, 5/20/2003.

13. Battle Of Britain: Collector's Edition (1969)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I don’t like Battle enough to recommend it for a “blind buy”, but this is a good purchase for fans. That goes for folks who already own the original “movie-only” DVD. This special edition offers improved picture and audio plus many extras not found on the prior disc. Fans will be happy to get this upgrade. Starring Michael Caine, Laurence Olivier. MGM, $

14. The Third Man: Criterion Collection (1949)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: When old folks say -they don’t make ‘em like they used to-, they could refer to The Third Man. However, I’m not sure they ever made ‘em like this. Ahead of its time at the time of its creation, the movie still seems very innovative and inventive; it barely shows its age and remains fresh and wickedly delightful. Starring Orson Welles. Criterion, $39.9

15. The Third Man: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1949)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Ahead of its time during the era of its creation, The Third Man still seems innovative and inventive. After almost 70 years, it barely shows its age and remains fresh and wickedly delightful. Starring Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten. Criterion, $39.95, 12/16/2008.

16. Gandhi (1982)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a movie, Gandhi falls well short of its goals. It glorifies the life of a great man to an unrealistic degree, and it comes across as a dull, stodgy hagiography. Starring Ben Kingsley, Candice Bergen. Sony, $24.95, 8/28/2001.

17. The Third Man: Criterion Collection (2-Disc Edition) (1949)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Without question, The Third Man belongs in your collection – if it’s not already there. For those who fail to possess a DVD of the flick, run out and grab this release right now. If you have the old Criterion edition, I can still recommend 2007 two-disc version if you enjoy supplements. I don’t think the new DVD improves on the old one’s pictures or soun

18. Surrogates [Blu-Ray] (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though Surrogates comes with an intriguing sci-fi concept, it almost totally fails to explore its subject matter. Instead, it provides a sloppy story marred with massive leaps of logic and plot holes. The Blu-ray boasts very good picture and audio along with a smattering of extras highlighted by an excellent commentary. I have no complaints about this re

19. Around The World In 80 Days: Special Edition (1956)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While one of the least impressive winners of the Best Picture Oscar, at least Around the World in 80 Days manages to provide a generally fun piece of work. Indeed, that’s all it has going for it, as the movie never takes itself seriously and gives us nothing more than a visually-appealing comedic romp. Starring David Niven, John Gielgud. Warner, $26.99,

20. Gandhi: 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition (1982)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While I don’t care for Gandhi as a film, this 25th Anniversary DVD treats it well. It’s definitely the release to own, and that goes for folks who already have the old disc from 2001. Since this one improves in terms of picture and supplements, it becomes a worthwhile upgrade. Starring Ben Kingsley, Candice Bergen. Sony, $24.96, 2/20/2007.
