221. The Strangers: Unrated (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With its theoretically believable tale of terror, The Strangers could’ve thrown some real scares our way. Unfortunately, the film feels slow and padded; it might’ve worked better as an episode of a horror series rather than as a feature film. It also would’ve been more effective with a little more imagination and a lot fewer stock filmmaking techniques .

222. Monster (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A film that will likely remain best known for Charlize Theron’s Oscar triumph, Monster works well as a whole. It sputters at times and becomes a little too touchy-feely in the way it treats its main character, but the overall result seems solid. Starring Charlize Theron, Christina Ricci. Columbia TriStar, $26.96, 6/1/2004.

223. Where The Wild Things Are [Blu-Ray] (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I can’t say how fans of the original book will respond to the cinematic version of Where the Wild Things Are, but I think it works – mostly. The film keeps us reasonably entertained and involved, but it lacks a certain magic that would make it great. The Blu-ray boasts very good picture and audio along with a few reasonably interesting supplements. Wild

224. Hercules [Blu-Ray] (2014)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With 2014’s Hercules, we get a pretty good retelling of the ancient legend. While the movie doesn’t excel in any particular way, it provides brisk, likable action entertainment. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane. Paramount, $19.99, 11/4/2014.

226. The Hills Have Eyes [Blu-Ray] (1977)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although it represented a significant improvement from his first film, Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes remains only intermittently positive. It offers some intense and intriguing elements but poor acting and cheap production values hinder its success. Written and Directed by Wes Craven. Arrow, $39.95, 10/11/2016.

227. Creature from the Black Lagoon [4K UHD] (1954)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With Creature from the Black Lagoon, we get the final classic Universal monster. The movie differs from the more psychological chills of the earlier stories, but it nonetheless offers a fun tale that becomes effectively rendered. Starring Richard Carlson, Julie Adams. Universal, $79.98, 10/11/2022.

228. Primeval (2007)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you want to see a slow-paced, tedious monster movie, Primeval is for you. If you’d prefer something with wit, tension and/or excitement, look elsewhere ... Skip this dismal stinker and watch Jaws instead. Starring Dominic Purcell, Brooke Langton. Buena Vista, $29.98, 6/12/2007.

229. It Chapter Two [Blu-Ray] (2019)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Two years after the first film, It Chapter Two concludes the tale on a positive note. While not a great horror film, it does much more right than wrong. Starring James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain. Warner, $35.99, 12/10/2019.

230. Monster: Special Edition (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: When it comes to recommendations, I can say that if you want to own a copy of Monster, this is the one to get. Picture and sound remain the same as the other one, but it offers a few more extras. However, if you already have the earlier release, I don’t see a strong reason to “upgrade”. You’d do so solely for the extras, and though they add some nice inf
