4. Malcolm X [Blu-Ray Book] (1992)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you watch the documentary, it reinforces the notion that Denzel Washington perfectly captured his character in Malcolm X, as the footage of the actual man is spookily similar to the actor’s performance. Washington deserved the Oscar for his work, and I consider his turn here to be one of the all-time great pieces of movie acting ... The rest of Malcol

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After the rousing success of his first film, She’s Gotta Have It, Spike Lee went through his sophomore slump with School Daze. However, despite a number of flaws, the movie has enough going for it to merit a viewing; it’s inconsistent but provocative. Starring Laurence Fishburne, Spike Lee. 6. She's Gotta Have It (1986)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It was quite the sensation back in 1986, but 20 years later? Ehhh. We can see occasional flashes of an original talent in it, but too much of it seems meandering and amateurish ... I think Gotta is worth a look due to its significance in Spike Lee’s career, but I can’t say the movie does much for me. Starring Tracy Camilla Jo

10. Bamboozled: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (2000)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While not Spike Lee’s best film, Bamboozled becomes one of his most thought-provoking. This satirical offering takes a vicious look at racism in entertainment and other areas, and though it suffers from inconsistency, it’s still a compelling program. Starring Damon Wayans, Savion Glover. Criterion, $39.95, 3/24/2020.
