Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Like The Jerk, 1980’s The Blues Brothers is a project thought of as a “comedy classic” with an appeal that simply mystifies me. The movie lacks coherence and it seems excessively indulgent; many scenes appear to exist just for the filmmakers’ own amusement. That means that parts of it are fun, but most of it plods along and goes nowhere. Starring John Be

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: More than 30 years after its initial release, Trading Places remains a reasonably charming and amusing piece of work. While the flick doesn’t excel at much, it maintains a nice sense of lightness and humor that allows it to succeed. Starring Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy. Paramount, $14.99, 6/3/2008.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I like Places and recommend it. If you don’t own the DVD already, definitely go for this new “Looking Good, Feeling Good” edition. However, if you do have the 2002 release, only “upgrade” if you want to get the extras. Both visuals and audio seem very similar for the two discs, so you won’t find improvements in those domains. Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a longtime Ghostbusters fan, I’ll have to hold onto my old DVDs because they include some supplements that don’t reappear here. In terms of movie presentation, though, the Blu-ray acts as by far the best rendition of Ghostbusters we’ve yet received. It’s not perfect, but it’s easily the strongest home video edition to date. Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As family entertainment goes, Yogi Bear seems respectable. No, it doesn’t dazzle, and it’s usually pretty forgettable, but it throws out enough comedy to make it better than expected. The Blu-ray provides very good picture and audio along with a modest allotment of supplements. I can’t say that I liked Yogi, but it offered a painless and occasionally amu
