Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While I won’t call The Thin Red Line a bad film, it’s definitely not one that appealed to me. I’ve now seen it three times, and though I appreciated it more with repetition - once freed from the expectations I had prior to my initial viewing - I still found little in it to sustain my attention or involve me. I thought it was lovely but ultimately empty.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Fans who don’t own the old DVD should definitely get this new one, but does it merit a “double dip” for those who already have the original disc? Yes, if the fans in question dig supplements ... it’s the way to go for viewers who want to learn more about the production. Starring James Caviezel, Monica Bellucci. Fox, $26.98, 1/30/2007.

- 4. The Passion of the Christ (2017 Re-Issue) [Blu-Ray] (2004)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: For those who came to The Passion of the Christ as part of its core audience, obviously the film worked for them, but it didn’t do much for me. The flick seemed more elegant than I expected, but it lacked a substantial emotional impact and came across as curiously bland and ineffective. Starring James Caviezel, Monica Bellucci. Fox, $19.98, 2/7/2017.

- 5. Ride With The Devil: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1999)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Despite a number of intriguing elements, Ride with the Devil fails to turn into anything particularly dynamic or involving. It’s a character piece with less than enthralling participants and a war flick without many battles. It works just well enough to keep the viewer with it, but it never threatens to excel in any way. The Blu-ray provides generally go

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Déjà Vu gives us what we expect from a Jerry Bruckheimer flick: good production values, an intriguing concept, some action, and a pretty nonsensical story. In this case, the first three overrule the last one to make Vu silly but fun. Starring Denzel Washington, Paula Patton. Touchstone, $20.00, 4/24/2007.
