-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you don’t own Misery on DVD, definitely get this Blu-ray release. Even if you don’t currently have a Blu-ray player, it includes the 2007 SE DVD, so you can watch it until you upgrade. Fans with Blu-ray capabilities who do have the 2007 disc should also grab the Blu-ray, as it offers a nice visual improvement. Starring James Caan, Kathy Bates. MGM, $2

- 2. Misery: Collector's Edition (1990)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I don’t know if Misery is the best adaptation of a Stephen King horror novel, but it resides high on that list. A simple but chilling tale, this one benefits from excellent acting and concise storytelling. Unfortunately, the DVD proves less winning ... I can’t recommend such a lackluster release, even though I like the movie a lot. Starring James Caan, K

- 4. Richard Jewell [Blu-Ray] (2019)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: At its heart, Richard Jewell provides a compelling story. However, director Clint Eastwood treats the material in such a simplistic manner that it fails to hit home. Starring Paul Walter Hauser, Kathy Bates. Warner, $35.99, 3/17/2020.

- 5. Bad Santa 2 [Blu-Ray] (2016)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Because the original film offered a delightfully cynical experience, I hoped Bad Santa 2 would offer more of the same. Unfortunately, the sequel lacked its predecessor’s insight and wit, as it focused on cheap crudeness without any wit or cleverness whatsoever. Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Kathy Bates. Broadgreen, $38.99, 2/21/2017.

- 6. Failure To Launch: Special Collector's Edition (2006)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Failure to Launch starts with a cynical concept and doesn’t get any better from there. It barely attempts a true story, as it prefers slapstick vignettes and cheap character laughs. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Sarah Jessica Parker. Paramount, $29.98, 6/27/2006.

- 7. Fried Green Tomatoes: Extended Anniversary Edition (1991)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Broad and overdone, Fried Green Tomatoes remains one of the most insufferable films I’ve ever seen. It takes serious topics and boils them down to simplistic notions of good and bad. Essentially women are wonderful, men are evil, and that’s that. The flick never becomes richer or more fulfilling than that, and its transparency makes it an aggravating exp

- 8. Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret [Blu-Ray] (2023)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: An adaptation of a classic novel, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret holds up well. It becomes a charming coming of age story that works even beyond its youthful target audience. Starring Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams. Lionsgate, $39.99, 7/11/2023.

- 9. The Amityville Horror [Blu-Ray] (2005)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Maybe 20 years from now someone will make a good version of The Amityville Horror. I do believe the basic story could work, but the 2005 incarnation does nothing to appropriate develop the property. Instead, it goes for the cheapest of scare tactics and lacks any form of cleverness or honest terror. The Blu-ray boasts excellent visuals, very good audio a

- 10. The Waterboy [Blu-Ray] (1998)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: One of Adam Sandler’s biggest hits, The Waterboy doesn’t stand among his best. Nonetheless, the flick has enough entertainment value to make it enjoyable. The Blu-ray provides mediocre picture, acceptable audio, and no supplements whatsoever. I like Waterboy but this isn’t a particularly good Blu-ray, especially with a high list price of almost $40.
