11. Spellbound [Blu-Ray] (1945)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Unfortunately, I didn’t think that Spellbound provided one of Alfred Hitchcock’s stronger works. Though the movie had its moments, I felt that it seemed silly and indulgent overall. The Blu-ray provides good picture and audio along with a nice set of supplements. While I’m not wild about the film, the Blu-ray treats it well. Starring Ingrid Bergman, Greg

12. Lifeboat: Special Edition (1944)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although not one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best-known works, 1944’s Lifeboat holds up well after all these decades. It offers an interesting allegory for World War II but also works as a claustrophobic character-based thriller even without those notions. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Fox, $19.98, 10/18/2005.

13. The 39 Steps: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1935)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The 39 Steps offers a very good early film from Alfred Hitchcock. While the film doesn't live up to the great productions he'd release in later years, it does seem entertaining and thrilling nonetheless. The Blu-ray offers generally positive – for their age – picture and audio as well as a nice collection of supplements; the commentary disappoints, but a

14. The Lady Vanishes: Criterion Collection (2-Disc Edition) (1938)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though The Lady Vanishes seems somewhat forgotten compared to Alfred Hitchcock’s best known works, it doesn’t deserve its semi-obscurity. Indeed, the movie works exceedingly well as it creates an entertaining piece of tense drama with a decided comedic flair ... This one is a good purchase for the Hitchcock fans. 15. Rebecca: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1940)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While Rebecca may never be one of my favorite Hitchcock flicks, it nonetheless holds up much better than the vast majority of movies from the 1940s (or 1930s or 1950s or 1960s... oh, you get my point). It remains a compelling and haunting experience. Starring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine. Criterion, $39.95, 9/5/2017.

16. Vertigo: Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection (1958)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Vertigo definitely is effective, but something about it simply leaves me flat. Maybe it's because the film wasn't really what I expected. While it has some of those moments, it's not a really thrilling chiller ala Psycho. That's not bad, but even though I'd seen Vertigo years ago, I wasn't quite prepared for the route it would take. Starring James Stewar

17. Vertigo: Special Edition - Universal Legacy Series (1958)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: This marks the third DVD release of Vertigo, and it’s the best. However, it’s not significantly superior to the one that immediately preceded it. Those two offer similar visuals and identical audio, though the new one loses a mono mix. Otherwise, this one differs from its predecessor solely due to a few new extras. While those components have value, they

18. Shadow Of A Doubt [Blu-Ray] (1943)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Apparently Alfred Hitchcock found Shadow of a Doubt to be his favorite of all the flicks he directed. I don’t think quite so highly of it, but I like it nonetheless. A quiet, brooding piece, it becomes a real winner. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Universal, $14.98, 5/7/2013.
