12. Halloween: Divimax 25th Anniversatry Edition (1978)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Halloween is definitely a DVD that should belong in the collection of anyone who even remotely considers themselves a fan of horror films. One of the most influential movies of any genre, it still holds up well after 25 years. The DVD’s image has inspired some controversy but seems generally very satisfying, and both audio and extras are quite positive.

13. Big Trouble In Little China: Collector's Edition [Blu-Ray] (1986)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you want good fantasy-related action/adventure, stick with Indiana Jones. Big Trouble in Little China aspires to fill the same territory but it never becomes anything memorable. Oddly anonymous, its 100 minutes pass without pain but also without any real excitement or drama. Starring Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall. Shout, $27.99, 12/3/2019.

15. The Fog: Unrated (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A remake of The Fog could have improved upon the original. I liked John Carpenter’s 1980 edition but certainly didn’t find it to be without flaws. Unfortunately, the 2005 rendition is a complete dud that makes its predecessor look brilliant. Never scary, spooky or even remotely intriguing, the remake turns out to be a boring mess. Starring Tom Welling, M

16. The Thing: Collector's Edition [Blu-Ray] (1982)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although it bombed critically and commercially in the summer of 1982, The Thing became a minor classic of the science fiction genre. Its delicious melding of sci-fi creatures with 1950s-era paranoiac drama create a film that remains wonderfully tense and unusual. Starring Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley. Shout!, $34.93, 10/11/2016.

17. The Thing: Collector's Edition (1982)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: All fans of quality science fiction/horror movies will be very happy to own a copy of The Thing. It’s also definitely worth a double-dip for fans who have the 1998 DVD. This one provides much improved visuals and superior audio as well. Starring Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley. Universal, $14.98, 10/26/2004.

20. Escape From New York [Blu-Ray] (1981)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Unquestionably, fans who want the best visual and auditory rendition of Escape will pursue this Blu-ray, as it looked and sounded better than ever. However, it’s a shame that those same fans can’t retire their seven-year-old DVDs; the Blu-ray really should’ve included the SE’s supplements. Written and Directed by John Carpenter.
