- 31. Midnight Special [Blu-Ray] (2016)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: On occasion, Midnight Special starts to kick to life. However, it so heavily wears its influences on its sleeve that it never quite turns into something that stands on its own. Starring Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton. Warner, $29.98, 6/21/2016.

- 32. The Beguiled [Blu-Ray] (2017)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Slow to the point of stasis, The Beguiled doesn’t offer an especially involving narrative. The actors manage to flesh out their roles in a satisfying manner but the movie’s sluggish development makes it a tough ride. Starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman. Universal, $34.98, 10/10/2017.

- 33. Hidden Figures [Blu-Ray] (2016)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Does it count as ironic that a movie about challenging the status quo provides a wholly conventional, predictable affair? While I like the story and message of Hidden Figures, the movie lacks much creative zest, as it conveys its narrative in the most traditional manner possible. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer. Fox, $39.99, 4/11/2017.

- 34. Spider-Man 2.1: Extended Cut (2004)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As an alternate version for fans Spider-Man 2.1 offers a fun take on things. The changes don’t significantly harm the tale, as it still works very well in this format. However, I think the shorter theatrical cut offers the superior edition. It presents a tighter, smoother flick and remains the best way to experience the story. Starring Tobey Maguire, Kir

- 35. Little Women [4K UHD] (1994)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although I loathed 1994’s Little Women when I saw it almost 25 years ago, I can’t maintain the same level of negative passion in late 2024. That said, the movie comes with condescending attitudes and a general lack of real movement that makes it a less than enjoyable journey. Starring Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon. Sony, $30.99, 11/19/2024.

- 36. Spider-Man 2 (2012 Re-Issue) [Blu-Ray] (2004)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Unfortunately, the Blu-ray lacks many extras found on the old DVDs, so fans who own those will need to hold onto them. If you already have the 2007 Blu-ray and either own the bonus features from the DVDs or don’t care about those materials, there’s no reason to upgrade; the 2012 Blu-ray demonstrates picture/audio that seem similar to the earlier release.

- 37. Spider-Man: Superbit Edition (2002)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you have the older version and feel satisfied with the picture, don’t bother with the Superbit. The audio commentary seems mediocre and not worth the additional expense on its own. However, if you’re one of the many who thought the old disc’s visuals seemed less than positive, you’ll probably be unable to resist this upgrade. Starring Tobey Maguire, K

- 38. Spider-Man [Blu-Ray] (2002)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Happily, Spider-Man itself doesn’t disappoint. The movie offers a lively and exciting piece that possesses greater depth and emotion than one might usually expect from this sort of film. It doesn’t seem perfect, but it works tremendously well as a whole and it captures the parts of the comic books that make them so memorable. The Blu-ray provides strong

- 39. Spider-Man [Blu-Ray 4K] (2002)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After more than a decade, Spider-Man remains one of my favorite superhero movies; indeed, it might only be second to The Dark Knight on my personal list. While I can’t call it flawless, it’s light, fun and a good representation of the comics. The Blu-ray brings us strong picture and audio but lacks supplements. It’s too bad the 4K Blu-ray comes with no b

- 40. Little Women [Blu-Ray] (1933)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While the 1933 Little Women forgets three of those ladies too much of the time, it nonetheless turns into a pretty enjoyable drama. Helped by a strong lead turn from Katharine Hepburn, this version avoids the pitfalls that damaged later adaptations and largely works. Starring Katharine Hepburn, Joan Bennett. Warner, $21.99, 8/29/2023.
