I wouldn’t classify it on the level of Spielberg’s absolute best work, but it’s definitely one of the strongest movies he’s made in years. Starring Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning. Paramou

- 13. Schindler's List (1993)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I know I’m firmly in the minority in regard to my negative opinion of Schindler’s List, but I really don’t understand the overwhelming praise given to the movie. It tells an important story but does so with too much manipulation and too little subtlety. Add to that a lack of depth from the characters and it seems like a flawed examination of its subject.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As a semi-autobiographical piece, The Fabelmans provides an intriguing take on the young life of Steven Spielberg. Unfortunately, it never becomes better than pretty good, as it seems a little too spotty to really hit the mark. Starring Michelle Williams, Paul Dano. Universal, $34.98, 2/14/2023.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: No one will mistake Munich for one of Steven Spielberg’s tightest, best realized projects. However, it still packed a punch and created a provocative look at terrorism and related subjects. Starring Eric Bana, Daniel Craig. Universal, $29.95, 5/9/2006.

-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With War Horse, Steven Spielberg delivers a piece of good – though often sentimental – entertainment. I like the film but don’t think it rises close to the level of the director’s better work, however; Spielberg creates something professional and enjoyable but not better than that. The Blu-ray boasts excellent picture and audio along with a generally inf

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Close Encounters of the Third Kind remains a classic, as Steven Spielberg tells an enchanting story of our first formal meeting with aliens. He utilizes a first-person point of view that makes the tale accessible and moving, and he fulfills the entire project with beauty and style. Starring Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut.
