12. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou: Criterion Collection (2-Disc Special Edition) (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou falls into the category of quiet, unassuming movies. Sure, it goes for an action bent at times, but it doesn’t overshoot its boundaries as it remains mostly soft and quirky. It takes a while to get going, but by its conclusion you realize you’ve seen something very good. Starring Bill Murray, Owen Wilson. Criterion, $32

14. Babel (2006)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Because of the movie’s deftly interlocking stories and its understated approach, Babel succeeds. It takes a challenging narrative and weaves the elements together in a satisfying manner. This ends up as a memorable experience. Starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett. Paramount, $29.99, 2/20/2007.

15. Thor: Ragnarok [4K UHD] (2017)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Packed with action, Thor: Ragnarok throws enough at the wall that some of it sticks. However, its relentlessly jokey tone feels out of place for the characters and subject matter, so the film sputters too much of the time. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett. Disney, $39.99, 3/6/2018.

16. The House With A Clock In Its Walls [Blu-Ray] (2018)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As an action-fantasy, The House With A Clock In Its Walls offers the potential for a vivid adventure. However, the movie lacks figurative magic and feels oddly flat too much of the time. Starring Jack Black, Cate Blanchett. Universal, $34.98, 12/18/2018.

18. The Missing: Superbit (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I’d recommend the original two-disc version of The Missing to anyone who wants to see the movie. I don’t think that the Superbit edition offers any improvements in sound or picture, and it comes without extras. Stick with the previous DVD. Starring Tommy Lee Jones, Cate Blanchett. Columbia TriStar, $26.96, 10/26/2004.

19. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Prior to 2008, I’d felt frustrated by some of David Fincher’s films, but I’d never been bored by them. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button changed that, as it presents a slow, generally dull fable that never really comes to life. Starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett. Criterion, $12.97, 5/5/2009.

20. The Missing: Extended Cut (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you liked The Missing and never bought one of the prior releases, grab the original 2-DVD version. If you already have that one, don’t bother to shell out the bucks for the “Extended Cut”. The elongated edition of the film makes it worse, and the only new supplement – Ron Howard’s commentary – isn’t very good. Starring Tommy Lee Jones, Cate Blanchett.
