1. Ellen Degeneres: Here and Now (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Overall, nothing about Here and Now stands out as exceptional, and no one will consider this to be a groundbreaking piece in any way. However, it presents a solidly professional and entertaining comedy routine in a solidly professional way. The entire piece feels quite satisfying. Starring Ellen DeGeneres. HBO, $19.98, 11/25/2003.

2. Grey Gardens: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1975)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Interesting but depressing, Grey Gardens offers a portrait of two women who once had wealth and good fortune but ended up in squalor. Some appear to take positives from it, but I see little more than mental illness on display. The Blu-ray comes with acceptable picture and audio as well as a nice collection of bonus features. Grey Gardens gives us a compe

3. Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore doesn’t quite match up with Martin Scorsese’s best flicks, it stands as a consistently good one. The movie presents a gritty and concise portrait of a single parent and thrives in that regard. Unjustly forgotten, Alice deserves a look. Starring Ellen Burstyn, Kris Kristofferson. Warner, $19.97, 8/17/2004.

4. The House of Tomorrow [Blu-Ray] (2018)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: One of a skillion “coming of age” stories, The House of Tomorrow lacks much that allows it to stands out from that crowded field. However, its cast manages to lend depth to the proceedings, so they make it an enjoyable journey. Starring Ellen Burstyn, Nick Offerman. Shout, $22.97, 8/14/2018.

5. Freeheld [Blu-ray] (2015)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With a good cast and an important story, I hoped Freeheld would deliver a compelling drama. As hard as the actors try, however, the movie tends to drag and it lacks the emotional heft it needs. Starring Julianne Moore, Ellen Page. Lionsgate, $39.99, 2/2/2016.

6. Jaws: The Revenge (1987)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After the miserable Jaws 3, I didn’t think the franchise could sink any lower. I was wrong, as Jaws the Revenge manages to make a bad situation even worse. Jaws 3 was just stupid and boring; Revenge adds possibly the most idiotic plot twist in history to its ledger ... I can’t imagine a movie dumber than this. Starring Michael Caine, Lorraine Gary. 7. Juno: Special Edition (2007)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Maybe the biggest surprise hit of 2007, Juno overcomes many obstacles. While it could – and probably should – have been a self-consciously quirky piece of nonsense, it turns into a warm, witty and likable experience ... Juno stands out as a fine flick, if not an exceptional DVD, so it earns my recommendation. Starring Ellen Page, Michael Cera. Fox, $34.9

8. Into the Forest [Blu-ray] (2016)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Parts of Into the Forest give us twists on the “post-apocalyptic survival” genre, but the movie fails to stand out in a positive manner. It seems too slow and insubstantial to become memorable. Starring Ellen Page, Evan Rachel Wood. Lionsgate, $24.99, 10/4/2016.

9. Whip It [Blu-Ray] (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If Drew Barrymore gets a second shot at the director’s chair, I hope that she’ll make something more interesting than Whip It. The movie has potential that it simply fails to mine. The Blu-ray boasts very good picture and solid audio but lacks significant extras. Chalk up Whip It as a disappointment. Starring Ellen Page, Drew Barrymore. Fox, $39.99, 2/2/

10. Finding Dory [Blu-Ray 3D] (2016)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Like its 2003 predecessor, Finding Dory offers a breezy, likable piece of animated entertainment. Also like its predecessor, it fails to dig much deeper than that, which makes it enjoyable but not as good as the best Pixar efforts. Starring Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks. Disney, $44.99, 11/15/2016.
