11. Albert Nobbs [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While I’m happy that Albert Nobbs managed to bring Glenn Close back to cinematic prominence, I can’t say the movie itself does much for me. It comes with a potentially intriguing premise and some good performances but lacks substance and ends up as a weepy melodrama. The Blu-ray delivers strong picture quality, appropriate audio and a few supplements. I

12. The Smurfs [Blu-Ray 3D] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: One of its summer’s moderate hits, The Smurfs delivers more entertainment than I anticipated. No, it’s not a classic – or even genuinely good, to be honest – but it keeps us reasonably amused much of the time. Starring Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris. Sony, $19.99, 12/2/2011.

14. Escape From Planet Earth [Blu-Ray] (2013)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you want great animated entertainment, you won’t find it with Escape from Planet Earth. However, you will find a reasonably likable and amusing little action comedy and you could do much worse. The Blu-ray boasts excellent visuals and audio along with a decent set of supplements led by a good commentary. While not a classic, Escape offers a fun time.

15. Marmaduke [Blu-Ray] (2010)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While I can’t say that I like Marmaduke, I also can’t say that I hate it. The movie lacks any form of real cleverness or spark, but it avoids becoming a painful viewing experience, and that’s a minor miracle. The Blu-ray provides very good picture quality along with decent audio and a small collection of supplements. The movie offers mild family entertai

16. Swing Vote (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After all these decades, filmmakers still try to out-Capra Capra, and Swing Vote falls into that category. Like most of the other imitators, Vote fails in its attempt to follow in Capra’s footsteps – and it can’t even muster a coherent story or logical tale ... A disjointed mess, Swing Vote fails in almost every way as a movie. Starring Kevin Costner, Ma

17. The Smurfs (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: One of the summer’s moderate hits, The Smurfs delivers more entertainment than I anticipated. No, it’s not a classic – or even genuinely good, to be honest – but it keeps us reasonably amused much of the time. The DVD provides very good audio and some interesting supplements but picture quality is mediocre to weak. That’s the disc’s biggest problem and o

18. The Sorcerer's Apprentice [Blu-Ray] (2010)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: At no point does The Sorcerer’s Apprentice approach greatness, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deliver fun. While it lacks real originality, it has a good time with its subject and provides a fairly entertaining experience. The Blu-ray comes with pretty positive picture, excellent audio, and some decent supplements. This becomes a perfectly nice release

19. Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project (Collector's Edition) (2007)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: One of the few remaining links to the glory days of Las Vegas, Don Rickles is still going strong in his eighties. We get a fond and entertaining look at the comedian in Mr. Warmth, a somewhat inconsistent but usually enjoyable documentary ... This isn’t a great DVD by technical standards, but it’s a good program that earns my recommendation. Starring Don

20. Dr. No [Blu-Ray] (1962)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Should folks who already own the Ultimate Edition DVD pursue this Blu-ray? I think big-time Bond buffs will probably want to get it, but the DVD remains very satisfactory. I really like the Blu-ray, but I don’t think it improves on the UE DVD enough to be a great upgrade, especially with its $34.98 retail cost. Starring Sean Connery, Ursula Andress. MGM,
