11. The Lord of the Rings: The Return Of The King - Platinum Series Extended Edition (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I definitely preferred the extended takes on Fellowship and Towers to their theatrical renditions, whereas that’s not the case here. Nonetheless, this shouldn’t negate the fact that the 4-disc King offers a spectacular package. I can’t praise it enough, as it presents yet another stunning release that stands as arguably the greatest DVD ever released. Di

12. Appaloosa (2024 Reissue) [Blu-Ray] (2008)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Ed Harris delivers a scattered, disjointed Western via Appaloosa. At times the movie feels like a 'greatest hits' reel, as it combines hints of other flicks into one unsatisfying whole. Starring Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen. New Line, $14.98, 3/19/2024.

13. Crimes of the Future [Blu-Ray] (2022)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With Crimes of the Future, David Cronenberg returns to his fetishistic fascination with unsettling alterations to the human body and related graphic domains. Unfortunately, he fails to locate a compelling narrative to go along with his moody and creepy visuals. Starring Viggo Mortensen, Lea Seydoux. Neon, $22.99, 8/9/2022.

14. The Passion of Darkly Noon [Blu-Ray] (1995)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As an 'early career' offering from a few notable actors, The Passion of Darkly Noon comes with novelty value. Unfortunately, its self-conscious oddness means it lacks substance. Starring Brendan Fraser, Ashley Judd. Arrow, $39.95, 3/24/2020.

15. The Road [Blu-Ray] (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Taken from a highly successful book, The Road promises a rich twist on an old premise. However, it doesn’t offer enough substance to make it worthwhile; it tends to ramble and lacks the heart and depth to keep us with it. The Blu-ray provides very good picture and audio; it doesn’t pack a ton of supplements, but it comes with a terrific audio commentary.

16. A History Of Violence: New Line Platinum Series (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A History of Violence may be one of those movies that impresses more on subsequent viewings. For my first screening, I thought the film had interesting moments but failed to coalesce into anything memorable. Although I reserve the right to change my mind, that’s how I feel at first blush ... There’s enough quality work here to merit my recommendation of

17. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers [Blu-Ray] (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While not quite as terrific as its predecessor, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers provides a solid flick on its own. It fares best when viewed as part of a “trilogy marathon”, but it still works quite nicely in the meantime. The Blu-ray offers excellent picture and audio and includes in a fairly superficial but moderately useful roster of extras. I d

18. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While not quite as terrific as its predecessor, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers provides a solid flick on its own. It seems likely to gain in stature when the trilogy ends, but it still works quite nicely in the meantime. Directed by Peter Jackson. New Line, $29.95, 8/26/2003.

19. The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King [Blu-Ray] (2003)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A terrific conclusion to a remarkable trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King provides a real winner. It moves quickly, keeps us involved and excited, and pays off with a satisfying and emotional finish. The Blu-ray offers excellent picture and audio but only includes a fairly superficial and redundant roster of extras. I definitely recom
