171. The Simpsons: The Complete Ninth Season (1997)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you want to pinpoint the year when The Simpsons showed a true decline, Season Nine would be the one. Don’t take that as a strong criticism of these 25 shows, as we still find plenty of good laughs on display. However, we find less inspiration and more mediocrity here. Created by Matt Groening. Fox, $49.98, 12/19/2006.

172. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Ultimate Edition (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As for the DVD, both picture and sound quality seemed very solid. Neither reached demonstration level, but both satisfied nicely. Supplements offered a decent mix of interesting elements. I suspect that most fans will be happy with the prior DVD of Chamber, but Potter die-hards will want to snag the “Ultimate Edition”. At $39.92, it’s not horribly pricey

173. Pickup On South Street: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1953)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though aspects of its political themes don’t really fly, Pickup On South Street offers enough noir bite to work. With a good cast and a brisk pace, the movie keeps us entertained. Starring Richard Widmark, Jean Peters. Criterion, $39.95, 6/29/2021.

175. Forty Guns: Criterion Collection [Blu-Ray] (1957)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Too campy and silly to boast real impact, Forty Guns delivers a mediocre Western. A few scenes leap to life but too much of the film drags. Starring Barbara Stanwyck, Barry Sullivan. Criterion, $39.95, 12/11/2018.

176. Behind Enemy Lines [Blu-Ray] (2001)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: While films like Behind Enemy Lines usually work for me, this one doesn’t. I can’t totally explain why it falls short of the mark, but the film’s excessive simplicity and overheated jingoism leave me cold. Starring Owen Wilson, Gene Hackman. Fox, $9.99, 11/14/2006.

177. Men In Black II: Superbit (2002)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The original DVD seemed good, but the Superbit nicely tightened up the visuals.

178. Scalpel [Blu-Ray] (1977)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With a title like Scalpel, one might expect a gory horror film. Instead, it provides a fairly effective character-based thriller that usually works well. Starring Robert Lansing, Judith Chapman. Arrow, $39.95, 2/27/2018.

179. The Crush [Blu-Ray] (1993)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: In her first movie role, Alicia Silverstone showed talent. Unfortunately, the rest of The Crush tended to be campy and without material that created lively thrills. Starring Cary Elwes, Alicia Silverstone. Shout! Factory, $27.99, 6/21/2016.

180. Dolphin Tale [Blu-Ray 3D] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Films under the banner of “inspirational family fare” tend to inspire more nauseated gags than contented sighs, but Dolphin Tale usually stays on the positive side of the ledger. Despite some sags and missteps, the movie delivers a warm, enjoyable experience. Starring Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd. Warner, $34.57, 12/20/2011.
