3. The Initiation [Blu-Ray] (1984)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Maybe I should admire the fact The Initiation attempts greater thematic depth than the average slasher film, but the end result sputters so badly that I can’t give it credit. The movie moves slowly and offers no excitement, terror or drama. Starring Vera Miles, Daphne Zuniga. Arrow, $34.95, 11/8/2016.

4. The Fly II: Collector's Edition (1989)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A truly misbegotten sequel, The Fly II retains the goo and gore of its predecessor but loses that flick’s humanity and depth. It acts as a poor exercise in horror silliness and little else. Starring Eric Stoltz, Daphne Zuniga. Fox, $19.98, 10/4/2005.

5. Spaceballs: 25th Anniversary Edition [Blu-Ray] (1987)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Spaceballs won’t go down as Mel Brooks’ worst movie, but that acts mostly as a reflection of the crumminess of the movies that followed it. Spaceballs provokes maybe two or three minor chuckles, but otherwise it leaves me shaking my head at all the wasted talent. The Blu-ray presents positive picture and audio as well as some erratic extras. Uninspired,

6. Spaceballs [Blu-Ray] (1987)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Obviously I don’t recommend Spaceballs to new viewers, but should established fans pursue the Blu-ray? Probably. It includes virtually all the same extras as the 2005 Special Edition DVD, and it provides moderately superior visuals. It’s not a killer release, but it’s pretty good. Starring Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis. MGM, $29.99, 6/16/2009.

8. The Fly (1986) / The Fly II (1989)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: In the end, I do recommend this DVD, and not just as a rental; it's something that fans of the genre should own, I think. It’s worth it since The Fly is such a great movie. The presence of The Fly II means nothing to me, but I must admit that the double feature concept has some merit as long as not all of the titles are this lop-sided. Fox, $14.98, 9/5/2
