- 1. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Extended Edition) [Blu-Ray] (2002)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Two Towers doesn’t feel as engrossing as its predecessor, but that’s almost inevitable given its spot as the middle chapter of a trilogy. It’s still an excellent movie that continues the tale well. The Blu-ray adds 44 minutes of mostly useful and entertaining material that serves to make the film even stronger than its Oscar-nominated theatrical cut.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The Extended Edition of the film adds a half an hour of mostly useful and entertaining material that serves to make the film even stronger than its Oscar-nominated theatrical cut. The Blu-ray boasts excellent picture and audio along with a thorough, nearly exhaustive set of supplements. It’s too bad this release doesn’t feature an option to watch the the

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Whether you spring for the “Collector’s Gift Set” or just stick with the standard four-DVD version, you definitely need to pick up the Special Extended Edition of The Two Towers. It offers an amazing experience that remains gripping from start to finish. I didn’t think it was possible, but with superior picture and sound plus even more supplements, thi

- 4. King Kong: Ultimate Edition [Blu-Ray] (2005)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Peter Jackson’s King Kong seems destined to be perceived as a disappointment in many ways, but I don’t think it deserves such a fate. Though the movie sags during its first act, the excitement and thrills of the subsequent two hours make up for its flaws. Starring Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrien Brody. Universal, $14.98, 2/7/2017.

- 6. The Frighteners: Director's Cut (1996)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I’m happy that Peter Jackson’s success finally prompted Universal to release the extended cut of The Frighteners on DVD. It’s an erratic flick but a generally entertaining one. While it doesn’t compare to Jackson’s better-known efforts, it has more than enough good moments to make it enjoyable. - 8. The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King (Extended Edition) [Blu-Ray] (2003)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: My only quibble with the extended edition of The Return of the King relates to the cut of the film itself. It remains a strong movie, but I think the added bits don’t always benefit the story. Nonetheless, they do help flesh out some moments. The Blu-ray displays absolutely stellar picture and audio as well as a long, rich and enjoyable roster of supplem

While it doesn’t compare to Jackson’s better-known efforts, it has more than enough good moments to make it enjoyable. Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you refuse to own two versions of the flick ... I’d recommend the “Extended Edition” as the best of the bunch. It includes a good cut of the flick and presents the best extras. This set doesn’t quite match up with the Lord of the Rings packages, but that shouldn’t lead to disappointment. The Kong EE is a stellar DVD that deserves high praise. Starring
