11. King Kong: Special Edition (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though the movie sags during its first act, the excitement and thrills of the subsequent two hours make up for its flaws. The DVD offers virtually flawless picture and audio along with a nice set of informative extras. I definitely recommend Kong and think this two-DVD Special Edition stands as its best current iteration. Starring Naomi Watts, Jack Black

12. King Kong: Deluxe Extended Edition (2005)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: If you refuse to own two versions of the flick ... I’d recommend the “Extended Edition” as the best of the bunch. It includes a good cut of the flick and presents the best extras. This set doesn’t quite match up with the Lord of the Rings packages, but that shouldn’t lead to disappointment. The Kong EE is a stellar DVD that deserves high praise. Starring

14. High School [Blu-Ray] (2010)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although I’ve never been a huge fan of the “stoner comedy”, I think the genre can be entertaining. Unfortunately, High School ends up as an inferior example; it meanders along with a slew of cheap, lame jokes and little else. The Blu-ray provides solid picture and audio as well as a strong audio commentary. This becomes a solid release for a weak film. S

15. The Village (2004)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Hopefully director M. Night Shyamalan will rebound with his fifth film. Unfortunately, his fourth, 2004’s The Village, stands as his worst effort. The movie lacks a coherent feel and relies too much on its twists to satisfy the audience. Starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Joaquin Phoenix. Buena Vista, $29.99, 1/11/2005.

17. Midnight in Paris [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though it does not compare with Woody Allen’s stronger work, Midnight in Paris at least gives us a minor comeback after a string of duds. Owen Wilson helps sell the silly story and it turns into a moderately enjoyable affair. Starring Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams. Sony, $19.99, 12/20/2011.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Though it doesn’t compare with Woody Allen’s stronger work, Midnight in Paris at least gives us a minor comeback after a string of duds. Owen Wilson helps sell the silly story and it turns into a moderately enjoyable affair. The DVD comes with acceptably good picture, mediocre audio and skimpy supplements. This is a spotty but generally likable film. Wri
