-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Thanks to a surprisingly strong cast, The Star offers decent amusement, and at times, its irreverent tones succeeds. However, its comedic elements often feel forced, and a lack of narrative clarity becomes an issue. Starring Steven Yeun, Gina Rodriguez. Sony, $34.99, 2/20/2018.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Overall, The Man Who Would Be King is a winner. The movie provides a very satisfying combination of adventure, drama and comedy and does so with flair to spare. The Blu-ray provides excellent visuals, adequate audio and minor supplements. I’d like to see the movie get special edition treatment someday, but I can’t complain about the presentation of the m

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Overall, The Man Who Would Be King is a winner. The movie provides a very satisfying combination of adventure, drama and comedy and does so with flair to spare. However, the DVD itself offers mediocre picture and sound with a few minor extras. It’s a good movie but a flawed DVD. Starring Sean Connery, Michael Caine. Warner, $19.98, 11/18/1997.

- 44. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo [Blu-Ray] (2011)
-
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Filmmakers don’t get much better than David Fincher, but The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo fails to demonstrate the director at his best. Although the story seems to be up his alley, Tattoo rarely threatens to live up to its potential. Starring Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara. Sony, $26.99, 3/20/2012.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Given its interesting characters and themes, I had high hopes for 9. Alas, the end result lacks much to make it special. While I think the movie looks really good, the rest of it seems pretty ordinary. The DVD offers solid picture and audio as well as a positive collection of supplements. While I wasn’t wild about the movie, I thought the DVD served it w

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Does Moguls and Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood live up to its title? Yes, but not with much depth, as it tends toward a quick and superficial take on its subject matter. Nonetheless, it covers a lot of ground in an interesting manner and provides a nice overview. This release comes with acceptable picture and audio and decent supplements. While I’m

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: The movie suffered from some of director Ron Howard’s soppy tendencies, but it usually came across as a believable and compelling examination of one man’s battle with mental illness.

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: With Priest, we get a movie that packs in scores of influences but fails to muster its own identity. The film starts reasonably well but becomes buried underneath its own infatuation with allusions to other – and better – flicks. The Blu-ray comes with good picture and supplements as well as awesome audio. I feel pleased with this release but can’t say t

- 50. Alexander: Director's Cut (Special Edition) (2004)

Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: I didn’t see the theatrical cut, so I don’t know if this one improves upon it. Since I didn’t like this version of Alexander, I find it hard to believe it’s significantly superior to the theatrical edition, but who knows? Maybe that one was even more boring than the director’s cut. Starring Colin Farrell, Val Kilmer. Warner, $29.95, 8/2/2005.
