12. Hidden Figures [Blu-Ray] (2016)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Does it count as ironic that a movie about challenging the status quo provides a wholly conventional, predictable affair? While I like the story and message of Hidden Figures, the movie lacks much creative zest, as it conveys its narrative in the most traditional manner possible. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer. Fox, $39.99, 4/11/2017.

13. The Dark Crystal: Special Edition (1982)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Recommendation time: well, if you don't know much about the film and you're going to let my opinion influence you, you won't get a positive one. I found The Dark Crystal to be a visually imaginative, technically well executed piece of work, but it's characters lacked interest and the story seemed uncompelling; I didn't enjoy the movie and I doubt it's so

14. The Great Muppet Caper: Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition (1981)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Should folks who own the original 2001 DVD replace it with this new one? Only if they feel dissatisfied with the old disc’s picture quality. The 2005 release offers moderate improvements in that department. I don’t know if the 2005 disc is enough of an upgrade to warrant another $20 from you, however, and the DVD includes nothing else that makes it worth

16. Labyrinth: Superbit (1986)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Labyrinth is a mildly entertaining diversion that offers many solid fantasy components but it never quite gels into a truly magical experience.

17. The Muppet Movie: Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition (1979)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Should those folks who own the old DVD “upgrade” to this new one? I’d say yes – if they’re actively dissatisfied with the picture quality. The new one doesn’t look great, but it seems cleaner and more watchable to me. I don’t know if the improvements are worth another $20 retail, though. Created by Jim Henson. Disney, $19.99, 11/29/2005.

20. The Muppet Christmas Carol: 20th Anniversary Edition [Blu-Ray] (1992)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Given the existence of eight million other adaptations of the Dickens story, is there any reason to see A Muppet Christmas Carol? Yes – it’s a lot of fun. It also provides a rich and surprisingly true retelling of the tale, and it works awfully well. The Blu-ray offers positive visuals, more than adequate audio and a smattering of satisfying supplements.
